The previous page had a few noteworthy mentions. Good to have some variety after the horror onslaught of the last week (one genre that is grossly over-presented).

Toward the Terra. A 1980 movie similar in style to Captain Harlock. As used to be the case with manga adaptations the story does seem confusing and even messy in places, but overall it was bearable. Fans of retro anime might want to seek it out.

The Street Fighter with Sonny Chiba.

Oh Lord, what an awesome and violent movie. I can't even describe to people how much I loved it. The scenes and all the blood. Oh god there was so much blood. I also have Return of the Street Fighter and can't wait to watch it. In-fact, I'll probably get onto it tomorrow.

I like overly-violent kung-fu films. I just can't help myself... let alone, explain it. :P

Chicago

What an overrated bunch of crap. Won 6 Oscars, including "Best movie" and it's among the worst movies I have seen in a while. It feels like a bunch of music videos slapped together with a couple of lines.

And the problem is, they are not even good music videos. The songs would be good if they didn't repeat the same phrases over and over again. Seriously, saying "and all that jazz" every two lines is boring. They are also reaaaaally long. I may not be an expert when it comes to musicals

The characterization is artificial and the characters don't have any kind of depth. The characterization of the main character also changes in every escene: Sometimes she is the dumbest person on Earth, sometimes she is a manipulative genius. It seems that they made a high concept and then didn't add anything to it, just songs.

There's also a character that tries to help the main character even when she is stupid and cruel. He even gets a song where he comments how unimportant he feels. Guess what? He is unimportant! He is redundant, superflous! He doesn't add anything to the movie but pain for the spectator who has to endure the dumbest character on Earth. No matter how many times he is spit by his wife he still thinks he is loved. He is even cheated on right away and he is still there.

After the movie, I jumped on the computer, went to Youtube and told me friend: "Here this is the movie we just watched, but better done, with better music and without 100 minutes of filler" and I showed him Rooty Toot Toot an amazing UPA short that is what this movie wanted to be but wasn't.

House of Fools: This movie was wonderful. Extremely weird, but fun. I thought the way they portrayed a drama about life in a mental institution with a war as a backdrop was very clever. Plus, it's based on a true story (semi, some things such as locations were changed). The lead actress was fantastic. There was a lot of emotions involved in this film and I find it hard to believe there are so many that weren't moved upon watching it.

Requiem: A bit slow paced, not to be considered horror or about exorcism. A pretty moving drama. The way Netflix describes this film is just asking for low ratings. It is pretty much a journey leading up to the description Netflix gives. I think this is why it doesn't rate higher. It is pretty moving film and the lead actress (for this supposedly being her first role) was superb. A 70s feel to the quality, which is fine because it is set in the 70s. Even though few of us have probably had a similar situation, I feel like this movie can be related to by anyone who has had their lives turned upside down by leaving home for college.

Prophecy - Late 1970s horror film about the dangers of using mercury in paper mills for 20 years on Native American land. In other words, it's about mutant bears! I laughed through most of this movie and groaned through the rest. Still, I did feel it was worth watching for the exploding yellow sleeping bag scene.

Paycheck - Probably one of Ben Affleck's best films, which isn't saying much, this is John Woo's retelling of a Philip K. Dick short story, only with tons more action...which really didn't do anything. They took an entertaining short story and turned it into a generic Hollywood action flick...oh well, I suppose I wasn't expected much more than that in the first place.

Megamind - Fun little CG film in which the super villain kills the super hero and then regrets it. Yes, it's a goofy kids film, but it's an interesting look at the battle between good and evil, a la Batman: Going Sane, but in a case where the hero and villain are closer to a happy-go-lucky Superman and Brainiac. Hey, I liked it. But why must all CG kids films end with a dance scene?

Starship Troopers 2 - Even on 1.5 speed, this film is terrible. Seriously, I've seen pornos with better set design and camera work. The plot was garbage, the acting terrible, and the script writer should be shot. Never again. Ever. It's a bad zombie film. There, I've ruined it, now you don't have to watch this crap.

Starship Troopers 3 - Not as good as the first film, but infinitely better than the second, even with the constant back and forth on whether God exists and how the bugs help humanity find Jesus. I couldn't help but like this film. It's not great, not even really all that good, but I was entertained.

I just finished watching Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. Absolutely loved it. Very interested in reading the comics now and playing the game.

I just finished two

Wristcutters: A love Story, which is about an alternate world full of people who commit suicide and a guys search through that world to find someone... he meets a few people to help him on his journey, one of those people being Tom Waits!- Overall really dark comedy, but a really sweet love story as well, great soundtrack with Tom Waits, Joy Division, and Golgol Bordello

Annie Hall- I had heard amazing things about this movie and how it is a must see. Now don't get me wrong it was good, but it seemed very similar to a lot of other romantic comedies. I understand and appreciate that it may have been one of the first of its kind, but that doesn't change that I had seen a bunch like it...before it. Overall it was great though, good cast, awkward Woody Allen- and an interesting message

Visions of Suffering: This Russian, art film was beyond bizarre. I know there are so many people who will disagree and say this film was what all films should be like, pure artistic brilliance, blah blah blah, but I feel it was just too much for me. Perhaps entertaining to those who are into these types of movies, especially those who speak Russian, but I just got a headache trying to keep up.

Seance: A made for TV Japanese film with a pretty neat story. Not very scary, however, and it just never seemed to pick up. The story was strange in that the actions taken by the main characters just did not make sense. If they acted differently, however, there wouldn't have been a story.

The Ceremony: A Paranormal Activity type movie in that it takes place entirely in one house with things moving here and there. Not shot in a documentary type style and a little more story telling takes place. Pretty neat story though with a somewhat predictable, but still clever ending.

Stranded: One guy I don't understand the hype over is Vincent Gall. Just seems like a pompous ass to me. He reminds me of Quentin Tarantino in the way he talks and even looks. He just seems slimy. He was the best actor in this film though. I have seen and tolerated some pretty bad acting before, but this movie takes the place. Half of it was redubbed so it must have been even worse. I loved the story (well what the story would have been before the bad dialogue and acting). Low budget so I do forgive a little, but the ending was a bit cheesy. This story, with a better writer and better actors, would have equalled a pretty great movie.

Boondock Saints: My friend had never seen it so we made her watch it. Still one of the best, in my opinion. Going to watch the sequel soon, which I have heard a lot of negative things about.
