I agree about The Ring. I loved it as much as I loved Ringu. I was so disappointed by One Missed Call. The Asian version is my favorite of all time and the remake was the worst movie I have seen ever! Okay maybe not ever, but it is up there. Certainly the worst remake. Okay maybe not, but it's close. I did like the remake of The Grudge. Ju-On was pretty good, but very choppy and totally up to interpretation. I thought the American version created a nice, clean interpretation that the watcher could get behind. Ju-On was still great, but I liked the remake because it was like one person's interpretation of a movie that is meant to have different meanings to different people.

I saw a couple more Asian horror films last night:
Arang: Pretty good although there was one part at the end that confused me. It was not, however, very important to the story and did not effect my opinion at all. Again, the cast was great. I am really starting to dig Korean horror now. Yes it borrows a lot from Japanese, actually I am not sure what has originated where so I guess I am unbiased.

Reincarnation: This movie was pretty clever as well. A very interesting idea and a clever way at combining multiple stories. Again, there was a part at the end that confused me, but I was also starting to fall asleep at that point. This movie had a The Shining feel to it, which made it all the better.

(SPOILER ALERT)

You could almost look at it as the aftermath of The Shining or at least a similar incident.

Tidal Wave: Korea's first steps into the disaster genre. This film was awesome. It was hilarious! We can get the main issue out of the way, they constantly refer to the tsunami as a tidal wave, which is not correct, but half of the world probably doesn't know the difference anyway. The comedy was nonstop, which worked to lull you into a false sense of security for the last part involving the "Tidal Wave" (I don't think this is a spoiler considering it is the title of the film). The disaster part of the film was pretty intense. Not Day After Tomorrow style graphics (you can take that how you want), but still pretty decent.

L'Année Dernière à Marienbad (1961) by Alain Resnais

I think half the fun of Alain Resnais 'Last year in Marienbad' is trying to decide what the hell the whole thing was about afterwards. It ostensibly tells the tale of a man who is convinced that a woman staying at the same hotel as him is his lover from a year past, yet she does not recall ever meeting him. The film is wonderfully shot, employing an ethereal, dream-like quality throughout, while the inhabitants of the hotel at Marienbad drift by, almost as if in a trance. The viewer enters and leaves the film knowing only that a man believes he had an affair with a woman, and that she denies it. Nothing more. Filled with sparse and ambivalent dialogue that confounds the characters and viewers in equal measure, L'Année Dernière à Marienbad is a beautiful and entirely ambiguous film. Intentionally bizarre, expertly shot, brilliantly edited, wonderfully arty, oh-so-very French and perfect on every cinematic level. Not for everyone, for sure, but undoubtedly and undeniably a classic.

^That sounds awfully French haha

I just watched The girl who leapt through time (2006, the animated version). It is very good, I almost cried.

Toy Story 3. Give this movie the best picture award.

1941 - A Spielberg movie which starred both Belushi and Aykroyd along with a host of others (including a not so slim Slim Pickens, a Nazi portrayed by Christopher Lee, and Toshiro Mifune as a Japanese submarine commander), the film flopped at the box office...well, no, it didn't, but it didn't do nearly as well as Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, so it was considered a flop. The film parodies real events which occurred during the war, such as the zoot suit riots, the military putting an anti-aircraft gun in a homeowners front yard, the Great Los Angeles Air Raid of 1942, and the shelling of the Ellwood oil refinery. I thought it was hilarious, and both Belushi and Aykroyd do great performances.

Toy Story 3 - What a great way to end the trilogy. This film is excellent, and I'd say better overall than the second movie. The performances are great, Pixar did top notch work with their visuals, and the plot was stupendous.

Dark and Stormy Night - I've really enjoyed the Larry Blamire films I've watched, and this one was no exception, though I prefer his B-movie Scifi Lost Skeleton of Cadavra movies to this mansion murder mystery. The whole film feels over the top and everybody comes off as a stereotype, making a perfect mockery of this tired film trope. Also, the old woman and the gorilla made for the best recurring gag in the film.

Eagle Eye - A lot lot better than I expected, even though it really ripped off 2001.

Also, even though I haven't seen it in a while, I wanna mention Phantom of the Paradise for two reasons:

* This fan-made music video, set to "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" by The Offspring. Though it features spoilers and it was made with a webcam recording. And I'm not sure, but the creator, who did a few other PotP MV's, may or may not take requests.

* This pic of me in my new Death Records T-shirt from HipSoul.com by way of their eBay store:

Due Date. Not the most hilarious comedy of all time, but the pairing was great. Robert Downey Jr's mannerisms and reactions to zach galifanakis made it, imo.

Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl

Wow that was a weird one. Made Tokyo Gore Police seem rational.
