Of course if you have a spare component R/Y/W one lying around it works too as long as you keep straight what color is which while snaking it through the birds nest of other wires.
For one cable, shipping is a killer. $7 for 12ft cable, $6 for shipping. I got mine from Amazon (Cables to go) for $8 with free super saver shipping.

Still monoprice is pretty good, better than rat shack.
So what ended up being your solution for your audio? I'm just curious.

Those HD-AV and Advanced-AV Packs from MS have optical ports on them for Dolby 5.1.

As modman mentioned, I'm going to be using the optical output on the XBOX HD Adapter. I just got back from vacation and noticed that the stuff I ordered has arrived. So I'll be putting it together this weekend and testing.

On a downer note, the xbox hd adapter I got is not an official Microsoft one. Bummer. The seller even stated it in the ebay listing fine print. Well, I hope it still works decently enough.

Are you sure it's not legit?

It looks to be the real deal from the sticker on the bottom just like the official Advanced AV Pack I bought years ago new at work.

The one that I bought off Ebay is definitely not legit. The links you provided earlier seem legit but not the one that I found myself.

Here's the listing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 1887wt_905

It says in the listing that it's a third party product. There's no mention of Microsoft on it anywhere. The box feels a bit light/flimsy. It doesn't use the right colors for the component cables and they're not in the correct order.

However, it does seem to work fine. I'll keep testing with it but it does seem to work in spite of the flaws that I mentioned.

Ah, I hope it works out ok. Some of those generic laser diodes for optical audio can be a pain in the butt if they malfunction or burn out.
