From battling to navigating, the game ran at a faster frame rate so things more flowed smoothy. battles were faster such as when the Pokemon's HP would decrease. It is much slower on the DS games. You run slower and the battles would overall take more time to complete.

I have traditionally been a non-Poke fan, but I recently began playing Yellow and found it quite fun. I've dabbled in Red and Blue as well, but I found Yellow to be a far easier entry-point of the three as it seems to be a "my first Poke" game in a sense.
Graphically, I always thought the GBA titles looked so much more my style though.
Yes I agree with you Yellow is a fine way to start. honestly for someone who has never played any of the game I suggest seeking out the third game of each generation if you wish to continue. The thing to watch out for is the high value Pokemon Crystal and Emerald go for.
