DMS4 problems.

Post by jp1 »

I got a broken PS2 today for $1. It powered up but didn't read discs or recognize controllers so I took apart my other PS2 and switched the laser, controller ports, and a couple ribbon cables out which was quite a pain in the ass since they weren't the same version. Anyway, the chip looked like a DMS4 EZI Pro and going by all the pictures online that is what it is but it only had toxic bios installed which claims the chip is DMS4 Lite. So I don't know if that could be because it was flashed incorrectly or what.

The main problem I'm having is that the thing won't boot CD media of any type. It boots DVDs just fine (both original and backup) but always gives DRE on cd media, even original ps1 games that work fine if I disable the chip. Any idea what is going on here?

the laser pickup has two lasers in it. one for CD and one for DVD. you can try adjsuting the CD pot on it, if that fails you may need a new laser.

I just pulled the laser from a unit that reads cds perfectly. In fact it will still read cds if I disable the chip, that is the weird part.

fucking strange... check and see if the chip is installed properly, they could have messed up on one or more of the wires.

Unfortunately that is beyond my capabilities. It contains quite a few wires and they all look to be in tact and soldered well. The chip functions in every other way. It really is quite weird.
