Why First-Person Shooters veterans are not Halo fans.

All silliness aside, L4D2 is an ok game. I think the glut of halo fans ruined the FPS scene for sure, but think back to the days of Goldeneye and all the new console FPS fans that were generated by that too. Hell my first FPS was Wolfenstein 3D and I still liked halo. Metro 2033 is also a great game and Half Life 2 is too. But liking Halo does not automatically make you have bad taste in games. Allthough the 3rd one and ODST were...ummm terrible.

Putting the Star Wars Battlefront games on your second list invalidated your entire argument, sir.

I am moving this insane post and the thread out of "Games as Culture" as the OP clearly has no sense of what "culture" is.

UH Oh, This statement doesn't make since now that the votes have sifted. So is his comment valid now and yours not? And will it switch around everytime one gets a lead on the other?TheTrueVeteranGamer wrote:Option #1 has been getting more votes than option #2. Therefore, you comment is invalid. First of all, great troll, you got me.
Secondly, all I see here is "HERE'S SOME FPS GAMES I LIKE." and "HERE'S SOME I THINK ARE SUBPAR". And "I hate halo lol."
I think your view of this matter is skewed, at best. Almost all the halo fans I know of, including myself, began their fps roots with games like Doom or Unreal Tournament. There's a reason why they refer to doom as 'The Bad MotherF*cker" of FPS games. It is THE fps. The only exception I see to this is maybe younger gamers, age 14 or below, lets say. And you can hardly blame them. PC gaming is nearing extinction in comparison to console gaming, so what choice do younger gamers have then to pick up and play popular games. The Halo series is by far the #1 most popular xbox live game of all time (factual - but this does not mean it's the best). And popularity sells.
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

It's only mediocre to you because you haven't played the first two Fallout games. They were actually deep, clever, and sophisticated role-playing games. Fallout 3 is pandering towards casual gamers, and fourteen year-old boys.yosh wrote:i died a little inside when you said Fallout 3 is mediocre.

The Star Wars: Battlefront series is a cheap Battlefield knock-off, with Star Wars skins. They're also broken and unbalance mess.YoshiEgg25 wrote:Putting the Star Wars Battlefront games on your second list invalidated your entire argument, sir.

Fallout 3 is to the first two Fallout , as BioShock is to System Shock 2. It's mediocre dribble pandering to casual gamers, and the MTV generation of younger gamers.Hateshinai wrote:FPS should be played with a keyboard and mouse. I believe it says so in the Bible somewhere.
I have to say most of my favourites are in the first list (big S.T.A.L.K.E.R fan here) but then you put Fallout 3 in the second list and messed it all up.
Also, the CoD: Modern Warfare games are an amazing experience but too short.
I don't quite understand the success of Gears of War though. Is it the chainsaw? It must be the chainsaw...
The Modern Warfare series is the new Halo series of our times, overrated popular crap. The single-player is woefully scripted, and the RPG elements throws away any balance the game tries to provide. I have to say, COD4 was at least decent. Modern Warfare 2 is one of the worst first-person shooters I've played in years. The Call of Duty series went downhill when they're started to mimic Halo's features. Halo ruined the genre for a wider, broader, and dumber gaming audience.

Re: Why First-Person Shooters veterans are not Halo fans.
I honestly have no idea why the Halo series is so popular. Maybe it's the lack of any real recoil that gets me, who knows. I remember when Halo first came out and it was the big hit in my dorm. Honestly the multiplayer was kinda fun, you only really needed a pistol and you could win no problem if you were familiar with headshots.....fps_doug style. The game just didn't bring anything new to the table and wasn't that well executed especially in the single player front.
While I dabble in console FPS from time to time, you really need a mouse and keyboard if you want to show your real skills. Where controllers are clunky and slow, mouse is fluid and precise. I'm growing more and more alone in these thoughts as the current console generation chugs on I know. Vive le Unreal Tournament, the king of all.
That is all.

FYI, "True Veteran Gamer," you won't get much respect and/or fruitful conversation when you jump in to the forum with all kinds of bold "I MUST BE RIGHT" kind of statements right off the bat. We tend to like all kinds of games here, so this kind of divisive thread/topic comes across as nothing but troll bait.
I'd suggest spending some time reading other threads about FPS games (if that is what you like) before trying to claim that there is a "True" FPS fan or that "veterans" are somehow "correct" in choosing certain games over others. You'll find that we've had this debate before (several times) in a much more sophisticated and civil manner. Turns out it is ok to really like Halo and Doom, COD4 and COD, and System Shock II and Bioshock.
