Why First-Person Shooters veterans are not Halo fans.
If you ask a long time veteran of the FPS genre: What are their favorite first-person shooters?
They would say one of the following games listed:
System Shock 2
Doom or Doom II
Half-Life
Half-Life 2 or it's expansion packs
Far Cry
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Portal
SWAT 4
Painkiller
Star Wars Republic Commando
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky
Team Fortress Classic & Team Fortress 2
Starsiege Tribes & Tribes 2
Perfect Dark
GoldenEye 007
TimeSplitters, 2, or Future Perfect
Red Faction
Deus Ex
Duke Nukem 3D
F.E.A.R.
Shadow Warrior
Outlaws
No One Lives Forever 1 & 2
Battlefield 1942 or Battlefield 2
Crysis & Crysis Warhead
Quake 1, II, or III
Unreal Tournament, 2003, or Unreal Tournament 2004
Unreal
Left 4 Dead & Left 4 Dead 2
Descent, Descent II, or Descent 3
Ghost Recon
Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, or Raven Shield
Serious Sam
Medal of Honor Allied Assualt or Medal of Honor: Frontline
Call of Juarez (Extremely underrated!)
Metro 2033
Marathon, Marathon 2, or Marathon Infinity
Turok or Turok 2
Wolfenstein & Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Brothers in Arms The Road to Hill 30 or Earned in Blood
Clive Barker's Undying
Battlezone
Call of Duty or Call of Duty 2
All of those games are high quality first-person shooters for the highest standards
Ask a Halo fan what their favorite First-Person shooters are and these are the following games they'll say (Besides Halo):
BioShock A.K.A. System Shock 2s mentally disabled clone or BioShock 2
Deus Ex: Invisible War
Doom 3
Area 51
Cliver Barker's Jericho
Project Snowblind
Far Cry 2
Star Wars: Battlefront or Battlefront 2
Call of Duty 4, World at War, & Modern Warfare 2
Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway
Rainbow Six Lockdown, Vegas, or Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Gears of War & Gears of War 2
Resistance: Fall of Men & Resistance 2
Unreal Championship or Unreal Championship 2
Killzone or Killzone 2
Fallout 3 (It's an FPS/RPG hybrid)
Pariah
Section 8
XIII
Call of Juarez Bound in Blood
Fallout 3
F.E.A.R. 2
Any Medal of Honor game that isn't Allied Assault or Frontline
The Conduit
GoldenEye Rouge Agent
Red Steel
Red Faction 2
Turok (2008)
Haze
Darkwatch
Powerslave
Mace Griffith Bounty Hunter
Battlefield Bad Company or Battlefield Bad Company 2
Timeshift
All of those are mediocre shooters for lowest of standards that are overrated by the corrupt mainstream media. It's sad that all those games are better than Halo.
Call me a troll, hater or an elitist, but you cannot deny the cold hard truth and reality. 95% of passionate and veteran First-Person Shooter players are not Halo fans. This is not an opinion, it is a fact.

First off, welcome to the forums.
Not sure what you are attempting to accomplish with this thread...
I just don't like being forced to give up a mouse and keyboard to play a FPS. I gave Halo a try shortly after it came out and there was no way in hell the dual analog set up was going to accommodate my way of play. The PC market wasn't exactly dry of FPS at the time, so I didn't think much of it.

Lol? Welcome to the forums "TheTrueVeteranGamer"
First of all, great troll, you got me.
Secondly, all I see here is "HERE'S SOME FPS GAMES I LIKE." and "HERE'S SOME I THINK ARE SUBPAR". And "I hate halo lol."
I think your view of this matter is skewed, at best. Almost all the halo fans I know of, including myself, began their fps roots with games like Doom or Unreal Tournament. There's a reason why they refer to doom as 'The Bad MotherF*cker" of FPS games. It is THE fps. The only exception I see to this is maybe younger gamers, age 14 or below, lets say. And you can hardly blame them. PC gaming is nearing extinction in comparison to console gaming, so what choice do younger gamers have then to pick up and play popular games. The Halo series is by far the #1 most popular xbox live game of all time (factual - but this does not mean it's the best). And popularity sells.

Option #1 has been getting more votes than option #2. Therefore, you comment is invalid. Also, PC gaming is not dying you consoletard.Crystalis wrote:Lol? Welcome to the forums "TheTrueVeteranGamer"

Yeah, I'm not so sure if a thread like this is going to yield any good discussion. Seems pretty trollish.

I can't personally speak for all FPS fans, so I voted BS.
I really hope you were saying this post as a joke or in good fun. If this is your second post and you already are name calling maybe you should browse the forum rules section a little more.Option #1 has been getting more votes than option #2. Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

FPS should be played with a keyboard and mouse. I believe it says so in the Bible somewhere.
I have to say most of my favourites are in the first list (big S.T.A.L.K.E.R fan here) but then you put Fallout 3 in the second list and messed it all up.
Also, the CoD: Modern Warfare games are an amazing experience but too short.
I don't quite understand the success of Gears of War though. Is it the chainsaw? It must be the chainsaw...
