They run at 60 frames per second, on a GBA. With everything that the game packs in they managed 60 FPS!
I honestly didn't know this so when I went to the 4th generation of Pokemon games and said to myself that it was show now I know. I was spoiled.
This is quite impressive due to the fact that Ruby and Sapphire had a lot of data in the game. Game Freak sort of upgraded the engine for FireRed and LeafGreen and added another region called the Sevii Isles. With Emerald they have added basically a whole other game with the Battle Frontier.
I hope they have Black and White at 60 FPS but from what I've seen this may not be the case.

From battling to navigating, the game ran at a faster frame rate so things more flowed smoothy. battles were faster such as when the Pokemon's HP would decrease. It is much slower on the DS games. You run slower and the battles would overall take more time to complete.noiseredux wrote:I don't get it?

oooooh! Wow that's a pretty awesome fact man. Thanks for filling me in.
I have traditionally been a non-Poke fan, but I recently began playing Yellow and found it quite fun. I've dabbled in Red and Blue as well, but I found Yellow to be a far easier entry-point of the three as it seems to be a "my first Poke" game in a sense.
Graphically, I always thought the GBA titles looked so much more my style though.

I remember picking up Pokemon Diamond that first day and wondering: *where the hell is the speed* So yeah, the 3rd Gen games ran so smoothly.

And, God, do Pokémon games need to be faster, right?
When I played them on emulators, I would constantly speed them up. Battle animations and HP draining were fun to watch the first nine million times. The 9,000,001st time wasn't so much.

That's why Shoddy is awesome! No animations, and all HP is shown in percentages! Plus it shows moves you've already made! Easy!jfrost wrote:And, God, do Pokémon games need to be faster, right?

There's a feature in GBA and DS pokemon games where you can turn off animations. I do this by default.

Re: Fun fact about 3rd Gen. Pokemon games:
^The GB games also have that feature.
The reason why battles take long is not because of the animations, it's because the HP drain is too slow, it works fine for the first levels but when you are at level 100 it's just too slow. And that's not even taking into account Blissey taking half an hour per hit.
The "It's raining" and "Recovered HP due leftovers" parts are also very annoying, very slow. Fortunatedly the first one dissapears on B&W and I heard that they modified the drain speed.

Re: Fun fact about 3rd Gen. Pokemon games:
yeah, diamond and pearl were several degrees slower than any other pokemon game. from what my friends have said about Black and White, they aren't anywhere near as slow. I used to give Gen 3 a lot of hate because of the fact the second half of the game was just all water, but playing through again after diamond and pearl I owe it an apology I think
