Its less than 50 days till christmas and everyone is asking me "What do you want." Being nearly 20 and at university the answer is nothing. So i was thinking i could ask for items which relate to my hobby of older games, but what do you ask for???
Logic says just list off a bunch of games or prehaps a console you've been after. However no one is going to buy a gift from ebay or a flea market, its just not done. So what do you ask for? I have come up with microsoft points for downloads but then i got stuck.
Any ideas?

Re: Christmas for the Retro gamer
Im getting a Recca 92 repro. Thats about it for me for Christmas. I dont really celebrate except at my grandmothers house and she insisted on getting me something, so I told my mother to buy the repro.
In the past, when I use to celebrate, I would just ask for the games, but would rarely get them. I found that it worked best when I was asked what I wanted I would send links to half a dozen amazon items.
If GOG or Steam offered giftcards, I would just tell everyone who wanted to give me a gift ever to get me those.

Yeah, repros, homebrews, or new hardware are good options. Check out the Harmony cart or Everdrive. Both reasonably priced, and available through typical web commerce platforms. AtariMax has a bunch of cool stuff. There are retro game stores like Stone Age Gamer. There are plenty of "mom safe" options for christmas shopping.

Re: Christmas for the Retro gamer
My parents gave me 100$ for Christmas this year, so I told them to order Dragonforce for Saturn and get me DQ IX. That way I got a very nice older game, and a newer game to take with me on deployment.

Re: Christmas for the Retro gamer
I have the same problem. My birthday, anniversary and christmas are all close together and I never really know what to ask for since pretty much everyone except my brother and sister will have no idea what half the things I ask for are.

Nothing, because it's not like I'm gonna get anything anyway.
(I hate my family/life)
Now if I had a fun life and actually had a reason to enjoy the holidays I'd just ask for something game related. Doesn't matter how small, just that they made an effort in actually thinking about a gift.
Unlike not giving a damn at all.

Fuck Christmas. I'm not doing or expecting anything at all.

I'll send you a present Niode, no need to be so glum.
As for me, it is a fruitless endeavor to ask for specific classic games since no one in my family would ever go through the effort to get it. However, my oldest brother has been asking for a vectrex for several years now, to no avail. I am going on ebay this month and get it for him.
But for myself, I don't anticipate asking for any games. Probably books and amazon gift certificates so I can buy more books for my Graduate program.

I don't even ask for retro game stuff because nobody in my family besides my brother would even know what I'm talking about or where to get it.
