I used a downloaded map, no walkthroughs (ie no guide telling me how to beat bosses) but I had played it when I was younger and could'nt be bothered with all the cryptic Nintendo bullshit of invisible walls and such, so I downloaded a map.
It makes the game far more enjoyable.
I am on the hunt for other Metroid games but damm there PAL version (even of Prime) seem to run up more than I have to spend.
JFE2, download a map, print it out, play it, heaps of fun.

Streets of Rage 2
I don't think i've beaten this since the genesis was sold new in retail stores. But tonight I kicked Mr. X and his silly tommygun in the teeth.

Weird. I got metroid prime and prime 2 for £5 a piece here in the UK. I'm pretty sure the situation is similar in the USA. Maybe Australia really likes metroid? Or maybe they just didnt get many copies over there?emwearz wrote: I am on the hunt for other Metroid games but damm there PAL version (even of Prime) seem to run up more than I have to spend.

This might be blasphemy, but this is the first time I've ever actually beaten this game. I own both the standalone cart and the Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, which is how I was playing it. I can easily see why this platformer is so well respected, but it also helped reinforce why I don't feel like this genre is for me. Still, it was an entertaining experience finding all those secrets.

Ack I also have never finished it, I am on the last castle, I should properly just try it over and over until I finish it so I can be done with it.
Good shit on finishing one of the 'OMG! YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED!" games.

Re: Games Beaten: 2010
I haven't finished this either. In fact, the only three Super Mario games I have finished through to the end are the original, Super Mario Land 2, and Super Mario Galaxy.emwearz wrote:Ack I also have never finished it, I am on the last castle, I should properly just try it over and over until I finish it so I can be done with it.

Re: Games Beaten: 2010
I have only finished 64DS, Galaxy and NSMB.
I have plans to finish them all, I just can never be bothered or get half way through, then get side tracked, then when I go back to play it I feel I need to start again to get back into it, and it repeats itself.
Once I finish SMW I think I will try to knock them back, one by one.

Re: Games Beaten: 2010
I've finished a lot of the mario games, but never mario bros 2 (either version) or mario bros 3. I personally find the early 2d mario games kinda hard. Especially mario 1 - I only beat that after weeks of playing it almost exclusively. On the same subject, i thought the first zelda game was really damn tricky too.
On the other hand, the supposedly hard as nails Kid Icarus and Megaman 2 fell beneath me pretty easily. I think some of these games difficulty are overrated. And equally some classic games difficulty seems to have been forgotten with how many people are so familiar with them. It's worth noting that i got all 4 of those games on VC for the first time, so I had no prior experience with any - nothing that'd make one game seem easier than another anyhow.

I think Mario Bros 1 and 2 (lost levels) are extremely hard.alienjesus wrote:I've finished a lot of the mario games, but never mario bros 2 (either version) or mario bros 3. Mario Bros 3 is pretty hard at the very end, but manageable.
But Mario 2 (US version) is ridiculously easy. Even when I was a little kid I was able to beat that game really easily. Nowadays, I can breeze through it really quickly if I use warps. But even if I don't I find it really really easy.
Re: Games Beaten: 2010
The only Mario games in the main line of games I've beaten are Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 (US Version), Super Mario World, and Super Mario 64. I have beaten some of the side stuff, like Mario's Time Machine. Super Mario Bros. 3 I've made it to the 8th world, while Lost Levels I'm currently stuck at 5-1, and I can genuinely say I'm not good enough to get any further. I've been trying for days, and one jump in particular gets me every time.
