I have a wireless 360 controller that came with my original non hdmi pro console, and lately the right button on the d pad has stopped working entirely.
All the other buttons work except that one.
Would it be possible to fix something like that, or would it just be better to get a new controller?
Any suggestions?

There might just be some gunk or plastic dust in the actual button connection. It's also possible that it's just worn if you play a lot of games where you're always going to the right. Opening it up to clean it out is definitely worth a shot though it uses a size 9 security tee star bit with the center pin.

I've saved a alot of money buying broken controllers. Usually they're just gunked up or misaligned from a bout of game rage. Open it with a torx screwdriver and clean it up inside, especially the button contact points on the rubber pads/green board. If something is cracked inside it may be replaceable from an ebay seller online.

Make sure you get the ones with the holes in the middle which can be used for both normal torx or the security ones.Mendoza wrote:Thanks guys

I can recommend against the ZooZen set that Thinkgeek and other places sell. Mine came from somewhere else a few years ago. Some of the bits in the set I got have rusted a bit even though I haven't really used them and they're inside all the time and the bits for Nintendo and Sega carts and such are crap.

Sears has a good t-9 for something like 4 bucks. It's pretty good quality and pretty easy to get your hands on.
If you have a Harbor Freight near you, go with this: http://www.harborfreight.com/7-pc-mni-s ... 97469.html
I know I know, it's pink...don't know why. But it has all the smaller size security torx bits too, which will come in handy if you ever need a t-10 to open your 360. The build quality is pretty good actually (star points don't round out) and it's cheap.

That harbor freight one looks like a good possibility to me.

I think it's the best solution out there. I carry mine around in my pocket and use it for work (I'm a printer/copier tech) and even with heavy use it still holds up.Hobie-wan wrote:That harbor freight one looks like a good possibility to me.
