Help with Chu Chu Rocket (Dreamcast)... Plays as a music CD

Post by jeffesaurusrex »

I tried burning it using BootDreams and DiscJuggler 4.6.

I've had two successes so far with BootDreams and one with DiscJuggler with Toy Commander, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and Ikaruga respectively.

When I try to burn ChuChu Rocket on Bootdreams it only goes through the first stage then says write completed. Nothing gets written to the disc, and it remains blank. When I burn it with DiscJuggler it seems as if it's burning fine but comes out as a music CD.

DJ gives me a message at the start, it says something about fixing a bad media or something like that. I've tried it clicking Yes and clicking No.

Anyway, once I get the CD burned it plays as an audio CD in the Dreamcast.

I'm having a problem with Virtual On too, but the dreamcast won't recognize the disc at all.

Thanks for any help guys.

Edited by Moderator - please do not link to sites for that kind of downloads outside of the download forum.

I'll give that a shot. Should I try to use the RAW write under the advanced tab in DJ?

I use Alcohol 120% to burn my Dreamcast games, so I'm not positive how DiscJuggler works. If you haven't needed to burn the other games you've made in RAW mode, then you shouldn't have to for Chu Chu either. The Tux releases are all self-booting .cdi files, which are the easiest to deal with.

Any special settings required in A120%? I'll just download it and start using it. I've been hearing of a lot of success with it.

Besides, I'm on Windows 7, since it's the only PC I have with good burner, and DJ and BootDreams don't get along perfectly.

Yes

Mode 2
Raw Write
OverBurn Disk if the file size is over the 700mb disk size

Setting the block format seems to be up to debate. I usually don't mess with it unless it doesn't burn right when left alone.

No special settings necessary for burning .cdi's with Alcohol 120%, but I would recommend choosing the lowest burn rate to minimize the chance of getting an error.

I burned the suggested TuxTheWise release with Alcohol120%, at first I thought it didn't work.

It loaded to the Dreamcast home screen, I hit play and it said insert disc. I opened and closed the lid a few times, kept getting the message then one time it sounded like it was gonna load. When I hit play this time, it went back to the startup screen (of the dreamcast- the spiral) but then went to the home screen again. Same insert disc screens for a few times, then after a few times I got the startup screen and the game loaded and works fine. This reminds me of when I bought the dreamcast on launch day and Sonic Adventure did this same thing.

Bad CD-Rs?

I'm using Memorex. It's the only thing Wal-Mart had because I made the revelation that the Dreamcast will play standard burned CD-Rs pretty late last night and it was the only place that was opened. Is this the culprit?

Edit:
I found that no matter how many times I try and open and close the lid at the home screen, it doesn't matter because when you hit play the game has to try and boot a second time since it goes back to the dreamcast startup screen. I have to get lucky enough for it to boot twice in a row for that to work. So whenever it doesn't load the first time, I just power it off then back on until it boots on the first try. Usually boots in under 3 times but I'd still like to try and solve the problem, it's a pretty big pain to have to sit down/bend over in front of the TV until it boots.

dont throw the disc away yet!

it may need a boot disc, burn one.

I've burned some games too in the past and they did the same thing, they acted like audio CD's

this may be a matter of preference, I'm okay with using a boot disc sometimes, but if you want it to play automatically, redownload the game from a different website or try to burn it again with a different program.

Well I've just now discovered that sometimes it will boot, but it takes several tries.

I was wondering if I could circumvent this and make it load first try with a boot disc? It's just this game that I have problems with so far.
