THIS. DVD is the furthest I'll go. I ignored tape but invested a lot in Laser Disc.
I won't lie, I was like 11 when DVD first came to market so I don't know what people thought about building a collection with vhs/betamax . But today , sounds to me like it doesn't make sense to build a collection even back then because vhs tapes are very unreliable , investing in them = wasting your money.
Dust and how easily the data can be destroyed on tape is just scary , sometimes the vcr will chew the tape randomly , not to mention it was designed to work by being pulled out and scrapped over some kind of cylinder.
Sorry kind of out of topic.
I must say DVD is quite nice enough, no need to rebuild a dvd collection, except maybe few movies that had quite nice special effect that you want to see in HD.
