Sega Saturn SCART question

Hi, I've just recently bought a DVDO Edge and plan on using Scart to hook up some of my consoles. The question I have is will a Japanese Scart work with a US Sega Saturn? If not, does the EU one work on a US one?

I'm also having conflicting results with trying to get RGB out of a US Super Nintendo. Will a US Super Nintendo work with a EU/JP SCART or is a mod required?

Will it work? Technically, yes. However, I've read that you should only use your own region scarts, as using others can result in damage to your console.

That said, that's just something I've read. I'm no expert, so whether it's true or not, is another thing. Maybe someone else will know.

I've heard of that as well. Something about not plugging it in when a device is plugged in can sometimes damage stuff. In any case I'll wait for some more replies.

Technically, No.

Japanese SCART and European SCART are not the same thing. They have a completely different pinout. Yes it looks the same, it's the same connector, but that's like saying a d-sub is a d-sub. Not even close to being true.

Not only that but the video output on the back of a JP Saturn is different to EU models as well. Pin 1 is 9v DC on EU Saturns, on a JP/US Saturn it is Sync.

Using a JP Scart on a US system shouldn't cause you any trouble, but using an EU SCART will. Of course this is all dependant on whether or not the device you're plugging your JP SCART into actually understands the pinout of a JP SCART or it's expecting EU SCART. If it's the latter you're going to get very strange results if it even works at all.

This is how its looking to pan out. I'll find out on Wednesday if this will work (if all the cables arrive). Ordered a Mega Drive cable which should be here.

This is how I am getting video. I take it i'll probably have to open the scart wire up and rewire for my NA saturn.

Yup I bought one of these EU scart cables and plugged it into my US saturn. The picture is definitely messed up. Looks kinda scrambled. I wont leave it turned on for very long out of fear of breaking something.

found this thread where someone was able to mod a US saturn to work with a EU scart but I'd rather just modify the cable as well.

Ive got scart cables that are giving me a really great picture on my genesis and SNES via an RGB to component converter but, I'm having a problem when running the SNES through a selector box. Im only getting audio not video(the sege audio doesn't need to run through the scart I get it from the headphone jack) . I dunno whether its the selector box or the scart to scart cable I'm using to hook it all up.

I fear the scart selector box I purchased is designed only to work with EU scart cables. I just find this funny because in all the other setups I've seen on the internet it didn't seem particularly important to use a specific kind of scart selector box. could it be my cable? it was sold under the name bi-directional scart to scart.

No I actually bought two of these cables because I thought the first would be the wrong kind but they both ended up working.

this one is working great on my NTSC console.

Ive noticed verticle lines (scanlines?) that are pretty easily visible but they hardly detract from the picture quality because of how good all the colors come through. It thought it interesing the the lines run diagonally on the SNES and just verticle on the Genesis.
