You could theoretically be well-stocked for years to come just from raiding the bargain bins now, while foregoing the online games. Looking at most consoles back catalogues, there are tons of games that I have yet to play, and that's just taking in the current generation of systems. The DS' selection of RPGs in particular could take me a few years to get through, and that's just focusing on the older games that have come down in price.
What would be nice in future MMOs is if when one was about to be shut down, especially if it were a classic, popular one that was finally bowing out, is if the developer found a way to make a single-player companion piece of software that allowed the user to download all of their characters, and do little adventures on their own long after the servers have been dismantled and sold for scrap. We haven't seen any of the truly popular MMORPGs close their doors just yet, not even EQ or UO, so who knows if this will ever happen, but if that day does roll around it would be nice if the game's developer could roll out something like this.
An example of why I avoid online-heavy games
