Just got back from Saw 3D with the lady friend. It was very "meh", but I enjoyed the end.

I love loud Action Flicks but also enjoy a good story such as this.

Not just a crime thriller of try to find the killer, but a very powerful to the heart movie. I can really empathize with the detective wanting to solve the fifty year old murder. A healing process in a father's own loss in the movie. An IFC film brings a strong cast with superb acting and very strong emotions. Watched a few more films lately:
Shinobi No Mono - Great ninja film about two rival clans run by the same guy attempting to assassinate Oda Nobunaga. One ninja, Goemon, gets suckered into having to do the deed because of how good he's considered. Only he doesn't want the job, instead preferring to live his life on his own terms.
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - I like Terry Gilliam, but this movie felt like a mess, primarily at the end. Since Heath Ledger died during production, a few friends had to step in to help out. Johnny Depp and Jude Law do ok in their sections, but Collin Farrell's in general was poorly executed, partially because the script just seemed to go off the deep end. If someone asks me to recommend them a Gilliam film, Brazil, Time Bandits, and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen will definitely come before this one.
How to Train Your Dragon - Seeing this at home really made me wish I'd caught it in theaters. It's a fun CG film with some great scene work (apparently a cinematographer was hired to consult, and it makes a great difference in terms of lighting and the framing of shots). There's also a short which extends the plot of the film involving a hammerhead whale, a hammerhead yak, and Thor saying "Wait for it." I'd recommend this one to all ages, it was a lot of fun.
Pumpkinhead - I really liked this film. Yes, it's a relatively cheap horror film with a view of backwoods mountain folk that can only be described as filthy, but the lighting and use of filters, the set designs, Lance Henriksen, and Pumpkinhead itself were all high points for me. It also was a perfect film to lead into Halloween. If you like creature features...

Watched Rob Zombie's Halloween remakes today, back to back. Not bad at all.

Irreversible: This movie was pretty hard to tolerate. Not because of the horrific subject matter, which was very well acted by all involved, but because of the camera work. I completely understand what was supposed to be symbolized by the camera work and I understand that my reaction was what the director was going for -
"The first 30 minutes of the film has a background noise with a frequency of 28Hz (low frequency, almost inaudible), similar to the noise produced by an earthquake. In humans, it causes nausea, sickness and vertigo. It was the main cause of people walking out of the theaters during the first part of the film in places like Cannes and San Sebastian. In fact, it was added with the purpose of getting this reaction."
Anyhoo, with what I just wrote, it may sound surprising that the film was still pretty great. Very much a dizzying, chaotic emotional roller coaster. The cast was superb, especially Monica Bellucci. The ending was just bizarre and uncomfortable considering the way the film is shot, which leaves the film in your mind for days afterwards.
Infection: I liked this film. Not a masterpiece, but still pretty eery. I admit that I don't quite understand the ending, I think I get what was supposed to be gotten, but not why it happened. I am curious, this is supposed to be the first film of a series, but I can't find them on netflix. If anyone has any input, please share!
Phone: It took me forever to get down to watching this movie because it sounded like a clone of One Missed Call, which (the original at least) is my favorite Japanese horror movie. I was pleasantly surprised at how different and how good this movie was. A pretty unique story line with a twist at the end that snuck up on me. I guess I got a little cocky and thought I knew how things were going to turn out.
Someone's Knocking at the Door: Bizarre movie with a lot of negative reviews. I thought this movie was a great ride, even though confusing. More of a horror comedy (not going for out and out laughs like Shaun of the Dead, but def amusing). Killer penises and vaginas. Check it out.
