Factory sealed vs. Mint CIB SNES games

Post by majax79 »

I got an itchy shopping finger and wanted to make a purchase on eBay. I was perusing the SNES games and I have two questions about factory sealed SNES games:

1) How can you tell if a game is legitimately sealed or resealed?

2) For me, would there be any point spending extra money to get factory sealed game? As soon as I get a factory sealed game I'm going to open it. Should I just stay with Mint condition CIB SNES games? It just seems like a lot more headaches looking for factory sealed.

Thank you for reading my neurotic questions :)

Yes, unless you REALLY want to be the first to open it.

sealed is geared toward keeping it that way, so you may as well keep toward cib

Depends on the price. I bought Space Invaders brand new, because it would probably be cheaper than tracking down a CIB copy.

It may be the pesimist in me, but I stay WAY away from sealed items. Even brand new items from Target sometimes have the disc stolen, leading me to never trust buying new items from a non-retail location.

Imagine this:
You buy a new sealed version of Secret of Mana, keep it on your shelf for ten years. You have a kid one day, and decide to open it with him to introduce him to the golden age of snes rpgs, and when you open it, you find Madden 92' inside the box.

I don't like those chances, esspecially since anybody with a credit card can by a resealing machine/kit on ebay.
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

You really want to spent $100+ for a .05 cent piece of plastic that you plan to destroy anyway?

If you're paying for the privilege of a minty complete game, don't worry. Many, many collectors out there have preserved their opened game packages and they are as good as mint. You might as well buy those.

i don't understand why you want to spend more money, and probably a lot more money, for a sealed game so you can just open it.

and since you are going to open it, why do you care if it is a reseal?
if you took a shit, please put it back

You are all right. Thanks for all the responses.

I'm just working through my neurotic brain I guess. Thanks so much for the advice. Time to go hunt for some mint CIBs.

You've made a good choice. With few exceptions sealed games don't really retain THAT much value over their mint CIB counterparts.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
