Never done any moding myself but would like the mods from here: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... &sk=t&sd=a

the lcd and battery pack by hailrazer. Would this be doable without having done any work like this before? I looked up how to solder and seems easy enough to pick up so this seems doable. The battery mod seems to be more difficult. Can i use the 6 pack battery pack or does the rechargable pack have a built in regulator that i need?

If this is probably to hard for someone who is experienced pointing me at someone who will do these for a fee would help since hailrazer seems to not be doing this anymore.

DIY all the way. The soldering involved looks really simple, but practice on some junk first. Aside from getting the necessary soldering and desoldering equipment, a pair or two of helping hands like these

and some kind of mounted vise can make things easier.

I've picked soldering back up after not doing any since high school many years ago, and my best advice (aside from research and practice) is to always tin your soldering points, and use tape and paper to mask off nearby points you could accidentally bridge.

Looks like the battery pack mod could be cosmetically tricky. Just take your time, think everything out, and use the right tools for the job. Good luck!

I made a battery pack using Hailrazer's information over on the bottom of page 8.

I removed (nearly) all of the components from the regulator board in the battery pack so I could just keep the plug it already had and didn't need to do any external mods on the pack. I just needed some wire and a matching plug and to make a small hold in the charger case to run that plug to the internal connections. I'd say the only issue I had was soldering the wires so the battery. It took a bit to heat up those contacts enough for solder to stick and either that metal or fumes from the plastic melting a bit ate a pretty good chunk of my soldering iron tip. Glad I was using a rat shack cheapie.

I only have the regular battery pack (6 aa's) not a rechargable one. So the regulator board in the rechargable is not needed?

also how do these battery packs stand up to just regular rechargable AA batteries?

Using Hailrazer's method, no, the circuitry that handles the charging is handled by the charger he lists to buy. It is paired with that battery which puts out an appropriate voltage. If you were going to gut a normal AA pack ir would probably be better to use the pack and the charger as is and rig up a plug inside the AA pack that you snap the battery into.

I just tried to put batties in the 6 pack and it did not work so i need to see if the packs broke or if there is a problem with the nomad itself. Works off of the ac power plug to the wall though. Ordered all the stuff to replace the screen so i will be giving that a try soon.

Might can be fixed but may not be worth it. Seems very strange that the battery pack did not work with normal AA's in there.
