You may be right, though I think things like this will happen - http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2008/04/ ... games.htmlfinal fight cd wrote:i am all for collecting. but i think collecting video games as an investment is a fucking joke.
and don't give me the old stadium events bullshit, because 1) that will NEVER happen again and 2) it will never happen again.
But this one dropped in price because Saturn emulation gotten easier and also the XBLA port is rumored or was announced (I am not really sure).gennss wrote:RSG = Radiant SilverGun Sega Saturn, big price item (or was)

let's say you had some sealed nes games and you brought them to this store and you made 200 dollars. hell, let's say you brought ALL those games in on that list and made a few thousand dollars. in the long run, where will that get you? you might be able to pay some bills off or even buy yourself something nice. but, it's not like you are going to be able to retire early. due to unfortunate circumstances, my parents inhereted a decent chunk of money; way more then what the sealed stadium events went for on ebay a while back. i asked my dad if he was going to retire early and he just laughed in my face.deathclaw wrote: You may be right, though I think things like this will happen - http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2008/04/ ... games.html
you can invest in video games so 25 years down the road you can buy yourself a new tv or a used car.
if you took a shit, please put it back
Re: Buying games to fight the inflation?
I agree, but I don't even buy gold/silver to get rich. I just buy it to keep the value of money given into it. So if I buy games that are worth today a nice TV or a cost of living for 1 year, I will be more than happy to sell them later for money, that will buy me a nice TV or for money I will be able to live off 1 year.final fight cd wrote:let's say you had some sealed nes games and you brought them to this store and you made 200 dollars. hell, let's say you brought ALL those games in on that list and made a few thousand dollars. in the long run, where will that get you? you might be able to pay some bills off or even buy yourself something nice. but, it's not like you are going to be able to retire early. due to unfortunate circumstances, my parents inhereted a decent chunk of money; way more then what the sealed stadium events went for on ebay a while back. i asked my dad if he was going to retire early and he just laughed in my face.deathclaw wrote: You may be right, though I think things like this will happen - http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2008/04/ ... games.html

I wonder if when we are 80 years old, our game collections will be considered antiques and people will pay ridiculous prices for them to decorate their new trendy retro bars or some shit like that, hanging copies of metroid from the ceiling with a strobe light

OK, if you're going to buy the games anyway, go ahead and buy them, and hope they were a good investment. High risk in investment, I guess, but you were going to buy them anyway, so it's a win/not-win-but-not-lose-either situation.

It's not like I would ever buy Rondo of Blood for 100+ dollars instead of that one on Wii for 9 dollarsslowslow325 wrote:OK, if you're going to buy the games anyway, go ahead and buy them, and hope they were a good investment. By the way, the thing I would be afraid the most about this all are reprints. This is just pure evil.
And another thing - if I start "investing" to rare videogames and some of you would be right about this all, I could sell the games in the beginning, when I see that happening. It's not like the games would lose their value/get broken overnight.

a few things i am steering away from. trusting in the government to make good decisions for the rest of us. bond investments r seeming a bad idea. so are the banking systems because of government incentives in doing so. so low percentages in interest.
gold and silver is the best method in these times. if the world goes to war again, invest in that. sad but true war brings in money n brings countries out of a slump.
but all of things invest to sell quickly, if u know a business it wouldn't be a bad idea to make some extra bucks. and come Dec, it would better to move your money away from mass used banks not run by the government. as a lot of banks since they can't use high interest rates to try n help out the economy. they r changing policy's for the people who don't have bank accounts higher then 2-5 thousand in the united states.
i would invest money in companies like apple before they snatch up more companies as they r on the verge to.

War between developed nations is a thing of the past thanks to nuclear deterrence. That's why we fight proxy wars or invade the Middle East. I'm not so sure if the old adages of investing in gold hold true anymore - the possible scarcity of gold due to its incorporation in common electronics might be a better reason but, again, I'm not sure if that's an issue anymore either.likestoplayinpuddles wrote:

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Buying games to fight the inflation?
If that were really true, every country would constantly be building plane and ships and the blowing them up and sinking them for the economic benefits.likestoplayinpuddles wrote:sad but true war brings in money n brings countries out of a slump.
