I can fill in some of your questions on about this - I have a good friend who just stopped working for Lodgenet.

The systems now are just mainframes playing roms. The roms are official Nintendo roms (like the Virtual Console). The controllers are wired to RJ11 plugs that use either the existing phone infrastructure or into a custom cablebox which can get the signal from the mainframe.

The controllers were rarely worked on, sometimes they would replace them, but often they would just be in the room. They didnt break as often as you would think, since most people wouldnt pay the $6 or 7 to play it. There were actually two types of controllers, an Genesis inspired one for SNES games and the N64 styled one that yall have all seen. I own a Genesis styled one but I dont have any pictures of it uploaded apparently.

The systems were priced differently per location but the cheapest my buddy saw one go for was $1000.

Someone on Ebay is selling a pile of the older controllers.

There is a Data box there too, no main frame though.

Not to be disgusting, but you may want to run a black light over that and disinfect it. Hotels are notoriously gross, even the nicer ones.

I remember seeing several Dateline specials or 20/20 specials about hotels. They'd black light the place and would find blood and semen EVERYWHERE. Gross.
