I just got this for Sega CD, it's really great. I can't believe I've never played it before, it's right down my alley. Everything about the game is awesome, it has some really interesting things going on. Loving the music too, it's all guitar driven rock/metal.

the version of the soundtrack on the Turbo CD version is arguably better, but other than that, this game just kicks ass any way you look at it.

Oh yeah? I didn't know there were different versions of the soundtrack. What's different exactly? I suppose I can just look it up on YouTube though.

Instant buy for me on the Wii VC after I checked out a YouTube vid. An unconventional shump, especially as your not playing as a ship or mech of some kind, great graphics and kick ass heavy metal guitar riffs throughout put Lords of Thunder in a class of is own.

I've read of guys 1cc the game or even not take any hits.... thats crazy, I need the $ code just to get a few levels in.

This is EASILY one of the best shoot 'em ups in history. I have the Japanese PC Engine (Turbografx CD) version. It's called Winds of Thunder in Japan. I've only played a ripped copy of the Sega CD version.

Did you know that GamePro gave this a perfect score when they reviewed it back in the day? I think I still have the issue somewhere in my parent's house. This, along with Gate of Thunder, the Bonk games and Devil's Crush, made me want a Turbografx. I didn't know this was on Sega CD until a few years later, even though I had one!

It's the same soundtrack on both versions, except that I think the Sega CD sounds a bit softer. The Turbo CD version has a harder heavy metal edge to it (not that the Sega CD doesn't have that edge, it's just that the Turbo version has more of it!). The Sega CD version seemed a bit grainier looking to me as well. I guess it has something to do with 64 colours vs. 512 colours on screen at once.

Still, the differences between the two are very, very minimal. It is an awesome game no matter which system you play it on.

I actually notice quite a few differences in the music. The sega CD version seems more balanced in sound and the turbo one has louder solos and more treble and have a static distortion but the rythem is harder to hear. In the Sega Cd version one song has an awesome bass solo in it, where the turbo version doesn't but it has a nice bass riff in the opening track thats louder. The turbo has a lot of tiny whammy leads missing from the SCD. Theres more, one day I will have to do a track by track comparison. Over all I prefer the SCD music better for the more balanced sound and thicker distortion.

I like how the SCD version has narriation and the shop girl talks (don't know why they dded lipstick), but the Turbo version doesn't and the PCE version japanese speach.
