Hey,
I just recently aquired my first Sega CD. Its a model 1, and works for the most part. I have noticed that it does have trouble with freezing or not loading some of my games (in all of these cases the CD's are immaculate). However, most troubling is that the when the cd spins up it makes quite alot of noise. Almost as if there is a scraping occuring. The cd's come out with no damage so I figure it might be the bearings or a lack of lubricant on the spinning mechanism.
Any ideas?
Also, if I am going to relubricate the spinning mechanism as well as the laser track, what product would you recomend. I have never repaired a cd based system before.
Thanks for your time,

Silicone lubricant would be the best thing to use. Most other lubricants are petroleum based which can damage plastic. Do not under any circumstances use WD40.
I was going to suggest powering it up with the case off to see if you can tell where the sound was coming from, but I'm not sure you can do that with the model 1. Lousy front loading CD drives.
