I'm not into most RPGs of any kind but Fable, like Mass Effect and Alpha Protocol, is a streamlined experience with added charm thanks to the neatly crafted world of Albion. An example of this is the path to story missions being laid out using breadcrumbs.

It's really in the same vein as something like the 3D Zelda games. I found the combat and character customization to be really enjoyable in Fable II, although I haven't tried the first game yet. I plan to soon though now that I've acquired it (thanks Dave! :))

Shaking hands and emoting to computer AI characters is getting real old.

I'd say it's more like a linear version of an Elder Scrolls game, although Fable is still pretty sandboxy.

Wow, Fable 1 is a million times better than Fable II and it's better than Fable III from what I've played so far (I'm about 2-3 hours into Fable III).

Still playing 2, keeping an eye on this thread to see how people like number 3, if it is worth a buy now or later.

Yeah. I suppose from a "realism" perspective it's better than Fable II (where my character in the right set of clothes was getting marriage propositions from every straight guy and lesbian/bisexual girl) but it does mean you spend more time doing the emotes. Especially since you have to do it individually, instead of pleasing a crowd at once.

I rented this game on Tuesday and beat it within the week. It was pretty good. Better in some ways than Fable II (the choices/judgements, & maaaaybe the story) while worse in other ways (Character interaction, menu, map/inventory). So I can't really say if I liked it more than Fable II or not but one thing is certain: Neither are even close to the greatness of the first Fable.

Yea, I had a hard time with the new inventory/map system. That and the game really didn't take that long to beat. I'm going to go back and do it over as all good, then all evil, and see what happens in the end.

WTF? John Cleese's not good enough for ya? I thought the menu in F2 was terrible so anything they replaced it with this time is bound to be better.
