Linking Consoles. Recommend games!

Post by Thermoptic »

The topic is gaming consoles that can be linked and what games that are worth playing. What consoles have support for linking? And what games do you recommend for this?

I have only played Wipeout XL/2097 with two linked Playstations witch i thought where really fun! Lets hear more recommendations from you!

This isn't the best answer but heres a list of good multiplayer games.
This should help you narrow it down a bit.

I wrote about using a Commodore monitor as the second screen for PSX link games at my CRT vs LCD signature link. Assault Rigs one of my favorite link games.

Here is a Wiki link for the PSX selection:

The Saturn and GBA both have linking cables. VOOT is the typical application for the Saturn linking cable. Then of course all the newer consoles have networking of some sort.

GameCube can. It's expensive though.

You need for two screens:

2 TVs
2 GameCubes (about $30 each at GameStop, easy to find cheaper)
2 Broadband Adapters ($35 on Nintendo Store, typically don't go for less than that)
1 10 BASE-T cable (ethernet cable)
2 copies of the game

For three or four screens (Mario Kart: Double Dash! only):

3-4 TVs
3-4 GameCubes
3-4 Broadband Adapters
1 hub and 3-4 ethernet cables
3-4 copies of the game

Games that support it:

Mario Kart: Double Dash! (16 players? Heck yes.)
F-Zero GX
Kirby Air Ride

That's it. Just those games. But those are good games for it to work. :)
Gaming accomplishments:
Nibbler (marathon): 251,169,160 / Nibbler (one life): 5,263,360 (WR)
Donkey Kong: 423,100 [L12-1] (150th place as of 2019-01-15)
Super Smash Bros. (N64): Ranked top 5 in Wisconsin from Q1 2016 to Q2 2017
Shrek SuperSlam: won largest tournament in game's history (Shrekfest 2018)

I didn't know 1080 Avalanche worked with it. Good to know, I've always wanted to do this and didn't want to for just three games. Four though, sure. :P

This is an interesting topic and good question so I am looking forward to the results.

If I remember correctly (I just read the topic a few minutes ago) I think CRTGAMER recommended Assault Rigs for PS1. Check that one out.
