Megadrive colour problem?
Megadrive colour problem?
Hi there, my old megadrive has seem to got a problem in games because it sort of blurs the colour yellow and some parts are white. I got a picture to show you waht the problem seems to be. I think it's the RF cable as it's very old now. Anyone got any ideas, i was thinking of buying an av cable off ebay which i'm assuming would fix the problem.

Yeah, that looks like a poor RF connection or interference to me. Try totally disconnecting the RF from the TV and the MD and moving the wire around away from any other wires to see if it changes. It might help, though an AV cable will improve things a lot too.

For now, mod your RF cable into a dual mono composite, big improvement in quality over RF and wont cost anything.

Depends if it is a model 2 and whether is has the pins. I have seen model 2 RF boxes with and without the extra pins.emwearz wrote:For now, mod your RF cable into a dual mono composite, big improvement in quality over RF and wont cost anything.

Sorry my bad, you need a model 2 to mod it.Hobie-wan wrote:Depends if it is a model 2 and whether is has the pins. Video, Audio, Ground = Dual Mono Composite, and all RF units will have those three pins. Some third party RF units will have an extra pin for stereo out (No first party units do).

Right duh. I keep forgetting the box is the RF generator on those.emwearz wrote: Video, Audio, Ground = Dual Mono Composite, and all RF units will have those three pins. Some third party RF units will have an extra pin for stereo out (No first party units do).

Slightly OT, Is a Nomad a Model 1, Model 2 or a completely different beast? Does it have the good FM audio chip?
Re: Megadrive colour problem?
Oh so it's defiantly the RF cable? Because i can just go and buy an av cable for it right now if i wanted to. Would there be any chance that something inside the actual MD is causing the problem?

As I said, unplug and try moving the cable around in relation to the rest of the birds nest of wires behind your TV. It might be the cable, a connection that's corroded a little from moisture in the air if it's been hooked up a long time, or interference. Maybe it will get better. But from that picture it does just look like an RF problem and probably not an issue with the system.jimftr wrote:Oh so it's defiantly the RF cable?
