2011 Together Retro calender
Re: 2011 Together Retro calender
I think they focus on multi-platform games just to be inclusionary. More platforms would tend to mean more participants. But since strategy games are best on the PC, and we all have PCs anyway, I don't think you're excluding anyone if you choose a PC exclusive. Except for noisredux I guess, heh.

well whatever. If that's what majority wants then who cares if one person's excluded. It is what it is man.Hatta wrote:I think they focus on multi-platform games just to be inclusionary. I'd be totally down for FFTA or some such too. We will run out of console strategy games eventually though.

Re: 2011 Together Retro calender
There are some strategy games that have seen widespread console release. Here's a few titles to keep in mind for that one (including a couple that I think would actually work for Together Retro):
The Romance of the Three Kingdoms series has multiple entries on more than one console, such as Romance of the Three Kingdoms II, which appeared on the PC, NES, SNES, Genesis, Amiga...yeah. Supposedly there's even a PlayStation port in Japan.
Genghis Khan II: Clan of the Gray Wolf appeared on the SNES, NES, Sega CD, PC, PC Engine, PlayStation, and on the Wii's Virtual Console.
If you're willing to count the revisions, Civilization appears on the PC, SNES, PlayStation, Mac, and even the N-Gage.
Gemfire appears on the NES, SNES, PC, FM Towns, and the Mega Drive.
Liberty or Death appears on the PC, Genesis, and SNES.
Operation Europe: Path to Victory appears on the PC, Genesis, and SNES.
P.T.O.: Pacific Theater of Operations appears on the Genesis and SNES.
Super Battleship appears on the Genesis and SNES.
Worms appears on the SNES, Amiga, Mac, PC, Jaguar, PlayStation, Saturn, and Game Boy. Development had even started on a Virtual Boy port, but was ended when the system was canned.
Nobunaga's Ambition appears on the SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, NES, 3DO, PC Engine, PS2, and Wii's Virtual Console.

Re: 2011 Together Retro calender
I'd be in for any of those, since I barely played any strategy games. I've seen Worms on alot of systems so I guess that would work imo.Ack wrote:There are some strategy games that have seen widespread console release. Re: 2011 Together Retro calender
Nobunga's Ambition looks pretty awesome Ack. I also thought of Shining Force which received a ton of ports, and also Yggdra Union which has remained strictly on handhelds but those have included GBA, PSP and NDS.
At any rate, I haven't heard from Fast in a few days so I have no idea what his thoughts are on any of this.
