Sonic Advetnure vs Sonic Adventure 2

Post by gennss »

Is it just me or does part 1 tend to get better reviews?

I couldn't stand the rpg-ish sequences, made it practically impossible to make it very far for me. The second one on the other hand was great in my eyes.

Opinions? Comments?

I absolutely love Sonic Adventure 1, it was fast, fun had great and memorable music and is just a blast to play.

Sonic Adventure 2 is OK, but I hate being forced to play as another character instead of the multiple campaigns from the first game.

EDIT!: I do love Sonic Adventure 2's Sonic and Shadow levels though.

One has a fishing game, and boring Amy Rose levels.

The other has many cool Sonic/Shadow levels, the shooting sections aren't bad, and the Knuckles/Rouge levels are much better than the Knuckles levels in SA1 (which doesn't say much mind you)

SA2 is waaaaaaaaay better than 1. But 1 had the hype, and 1 has the nostalgia. I remember buying the Gamecube port after loving SA2:B, and hating it.

You don't have to play ANY of the other stuff though.Sonic Adventure 1 can essentially be a Sonic only game if you want it.

Basically Sonic Adventure 1 is speed, speed, speed.

Sonic adventure 2 teases you with speed at first and eventually gives you much shorter levels than the first, and bloats it up with slow & badly designed levels in between.

Flake hates hub worlds with no guidance on where to go next.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

The glowing orbs rarely update in their guidance and after Amy Rose appears (in Sonic's storyline) there is next to nothing I can do to figure out what to do next.

I know it was 1999 and game designers were still figuring out what to do with themselves and these crazy '3D graficks' but the hub world did nothing but slow down the action - a criminal trespass in a Sonic game that came out before Sonic became synonymous with suck.

Ya Orbs didn't help much in sonic1. It was awesome, till I got stuck and the hub was a major turn off in that game. First level rocked though.

You have to if you want to play the final boss.

Also Sonic being about speed speed speed, is why modern sonic games suck. Speed was the sales gimmick. The ace level design and platforming was made those games stand out.
