A console fps player talking about something not being hardcore............anyone else see the irony?

Exactly.Ack wrote: It is attitudes like this that a) keep people from gaming and b) prevent it from truly being taken seriously. And for what? Foolish pride.
It is best to be casually hardcore. Be hardcore, but don't act like you think you are.

Wait a minute ...........
But back to the labeling such as a Retro Gamer or a Hardcore Gamer. I don't think there is a perfect definition for either perceived prestigious title. Be it one that dedicates a lot of time to get the perfect score, one that enjoys only 8 bit gaming or only current gen. Or is well rounded enjoying all the different games better with not enough time exploring a certain genre?
Maybe JT 's hidden message says it best, play and share gaming experience and have fun.

Sigh.3GenGames wrote:Not going to read all them posts, but yes I am one of the top Defender players, my gamertag is "I AaronB123 I"
And "hardcore" games to me is playing where more then half the people playing know more or less how to play decently. I still have found nobody else who can play more situatuional then me in MW2, shoot, scoot, take note of how they play. Got a camper in your game? Flank him. Knifer in MW2? Pull out some assault rifles with FMJ and listen so you know when he's coming. Thats how I play and consider hardcore. Change with the players, never just play the game. Play the people.
Sorry to just explode but anyone calling a Wii game hardcore is on the wrong system. Can't outplay somebody when whoever has the better connection wins. I just get mad. I got Brawl for Christmas with a wii, my sister opened the Wii, I kept brawl sealed for 8 months before my parents made me give it away. Halo and COD2 IMO ere alot better then some updated game I have for the N64 this is 2D with psuedo-3D graphics. Like I said before, Wii can't run Halo. They should have made a new system, not a overclocked Gamecube.
After Acks post, I thought we were gonna get a more reasonable counter argument, something in the same vein of the7k, who just realises that the system isn't for him, that doesnt mean it's a bad console.
So basically what you're saying is that a hardcore game is something where theres a competitive multiplayer environment. Thats what i gathered from your modern warfare paragraph. Then you go on to say that Brawl isn't any good, yet you didn't open it or play it and sold it sealed? Perhaps if you'd opened your wii and actually played some games on it you'd have formed a different opinion ¬_¬. And yes, I understand your point about brawls online multiplayer, but it's not like local multiplayer stopped existing all of a sudden. And Brawl ks a pretty 'hardcore' game by your definition, judging from the amount of people on online boards like smashboards organising tourneys and coming up with advanced strategies and whatnot.
Since when did hardcore mean multiplayer anyhow? Is Final Fantasy not hardcore? Thats a lot of man hours, some intense grinding, a lot of customisation of your party.
And again with this graphics obsession. The Wii can't run Halo? Why does it even matter? You have an xbox for halo, go buy a different game on the wii, one which is made for the wii, and not ported over from another console. The whole idea is to have different gaming experiences to the other modern consoles.
I also love how 'Halo and COD2 IMO ere alot better then some updated game I have for the N64 this is 2D with psuedo-3D graphics.' What does this even mean? I assume you were talking about Smash Bros, in which case it doesnt have 'Psuedo 3D graphics', it has 3D graphics. It has a 2D plane of movement, because thats what works best. So does Street Fighter 4 - a 'hardcore' game for the 360. And Modern Warfare 2 is an updated version of Call of Duty - a game which came out in 2003, only a few years after the original smash bros. The original halo came out in 2001. What does it matter if any of these games are updated versions? Thats kinda what sequels tend to be. All that matters is that people enjoy them.

I find it more ironic that he thinks that Smash Bros. Brawl is a mere update, whereas Halo and Call of Duty aren't. Seeing as FPSs this generation are considered the definition of derivative, that sure is funny.ZeroAX wrote:A console fps player talking about something not being hardcore............anyone else see the irony?

@3GenGames
Do you even like retro games? And if so do you find any "hardcore" despite lesser graphics?
By the way this thread has really been derailed. So how about those top ten games.

You're really, really on the wrong site to argue this. I think somebody else already said something like this before but the community here is mostly open to all systems no matter what their graphical capabilities, game libraries, et cetera are.3GenGames wrote:Sorry to just explode but anyone calling a Wii game hardcore is on the wrong system.
A blessing in disguise.3GenGames wrote:Like I said before, Wii can't run Halo.
It is an entirely different system unlike the PS3/360 which are just updated versions of their predecessors. The Wii has successfully brought motion control to home consoles and has made it a standard which will be present in a lot of future game consoles.3GenGames wrote:They should have made a new system, not a overclocked Gamecube.

Alright... About those top ten games... I'm surprised that Red Dead Redemption is on the list. I didn't think the game was that popular. Honestly I don't know much about the game but I thought it was going to be just a standard hit. Kinda like how the Madden games sell a lot of copies every year... I guess it had a lot of copies sold to be in the top three.

Ugh. Seeing stuff like this makes me wish we had an option to block posts from users who we wanted to ignore. If you don't want to read the posts people made IN RESPONSE TO YOU then don't expect to get the same consideration. Way to make a first impression 3GenGames.3GenGames wrote:Not going to read all them posts
Sorry, Ngamer, the thread was a good idea but it has spiraled into ridiculousness and a tangential and tired conversation. I am going to put the kibosh on it.
