Re: Game magazines, what is your favorite?
EGM. I have all issues from the first until about 1996. I just started a new subscription with them since Steve Harris bought EGM back.

marvel and capcom magazine i really love all of that
Re: Game magazines, what is your favorite?
Back at the OP I posted a link to PDFs for a great older Arcade mag called JoyStik.
Curious for anyone who read the PDFs, comments?
Here is the link again.

These magazines highlight the great Arcades of the 1980s. Really great glossy pages full of screenshots, a jewel of the day.
Found these PDFs, Merry Christmas!

I have always liked game informer, although I bet most you don't like it because of its strong ties with gamestop.

Re: Game magazines, what is your favorite?
I was a big fan of EGM in the early to mid 90s when Steve Harris was running the show, but started to lose interest after Ed Semrad starting taking the reigns in terms of editorial direction. Also loved Video Games & Computer Entertainment when Andy Eddy was there. A very good mag then. In recent years I've lost a lot of interest in game mags, and even a number of the game sites. They just don't provide anything interesting. The few I do like include Gamasutra, Rock, Paper, Shotgun, and trawling the NeoGAF gaming board for news.

I'm more against it for it's horrid reviews (Reviews for games like Paper Mario and Resident Evil 5 are ones that I can recall finding incredibad) and the way it at least used to sell cover stories to the highest bidders. Go look at the cover of some GIs, and you'll notice about 1 out of 3 feature a game no one would ever be interested it.saturnfan wrote:I have always liked game informer, although I bet most you don't like it because of its strong ties with gamestop.

I have more of a nostalgic attachment to game informer than anything else. As far as their content, I don't find it too offensive. It adequately keeps me up to date on current gen gaming.the7k wrote:I'm more against it for it's horrid reviews (Reviews for games like Paper Mario and Resident Evil 5 are ones that I can recall finding incredibad) and the way it at least used to sell cover stories to the highest bidders. What I do hate, however, are their forums at gameinformer.com. Don't even get me started on that.

A bump for anyone who might have missed the free Joystik PDFs in the OP. A short lived magazine series with reviews and maps of classic Arcade games. I was lucky to buy every issue when they were in the newsstands.

Re: Game magazines, what is your favorite?
I don't have a favorite gaming mag. I just read whatever I find at thrift stores, and sometimes I'll read PC Gamer, since my library subscribes to it. I rather like to read N64 era Nintendo Powers, along with late 32 bit/early 128 bit era Gamepro's. I have no interest in reading current issues of anything besides PC Gamer, as they contain nothing but news and info so mainstream I've already heard it all before I open the magazine.

^thanks CRT!
I personally have been collecting PSM for a few months now. I loved PSM. The independence mattered, as the reviews were totally honest. I've been known to pick up Official PlayStation Magazine as well, but those are more hit or miss throughout the years. PSM is just fucking awesome.
