from what I've noticed, systems reach a low point (valuewise) then go back up.
When new systems come out, everyone sells their older stuff in order to buy the newness.
there was a time back in early 2000's, when you could by a sega saturn with games for $20 or less! Games were even cheaper!
years before, the same happened when the N64 and playstation came out. Super nintendos and genesis became dirt cheap.
But a strange thing happens, people miss their old games! There's a bounceback on game prices. those games that were dirt cheap are no longer that.
some systems fare well than others tho. just compare the prices of sega vs nintendo.
so think about it, now is the perfect time to buy those gamecubes! in a few years when your little brothers or sisters are yearning to play those old systems, the prices of them will go up!
Why is the Gamecube cheaper than N64/SNES/NES?

Yes thats the one, a good move buying one.NintenBroke wrote:Do you mean the Gameboy player for the Gamecube or something different? I got the player already.CRTGAMER wrote:Get the GC GBA while you can too, 10 bucks at Gamestop.
Agree, a supply and demand situation. The Gamecube controllers popular for the Wii. I may have to pick up a backup Gamecube before the market does go sour.Anapan wrote:It's surprisingly hard to find real Gamecube controllers for the same reason. I bought my first gamecube early this year, I have 7 compatible controllers, and 3 controller converters, but the default original controllers are nowhere to be found in town, and are pretty expensive online.

I seem to remember being at a game shop in Chicago and over hearing the the clerk decline someone trading in a Cube because they have a bunch and no one was buying them.
The backwards compatibility I think is the main reason why. Just look at the PS1. It's the same thing.

its easy to figure out why
Wii is cheap already , and it has perfect gamecube compatibility, and newer hardware means longer life. So why keep the 9 year old cube around?
All gamecube owners(nintendo fans) are the same Wii owners, maybe they got confused of why owning two systems , when one can run both just as good.
I guess its like, why keep a dvd player when you have a bluray one? the bluray one will play dvds just as good.
of course prices will go higher in the future

Re: Why is the Gamecube cheaper than N64/SNES/NES?
i'm pretty sure it's because the gamecube doesn't really have as much of a widespread fanbase amongst the normals. aside from smash bros, there's really nothing on the system that anyone "normal" would remember like they would a goldeneye or mario kart 64, or super mario world, nba jam, mortal kombat II, etc.
the wii backwards compatibility thing probably has something to do with it as well.

Got to say, I know exactly what people mean about Gamecube controllers! They seem to be relatively difficult too to pick here (in the UK) and they go for nearly the same price of an actual Gamecube. I mean wtf?
Btw, does anyone else find it harder to find Gamecube stuff in decent condition than some other consoles? Maybe it's just the few shops I visit that still stock Gamecube stuff, but the controllers are often beat up, and the game cases are often damaged too with instructions often missing. I guess Gamecube really was a child's console...
Going off on a rant here too... but games with missing instructions piss me off. How the hell do you lose the instructions? I can understand with the old Snes/Nes/N64 etc games when people just use to throw away the boxes (like why would you do that? haha), but I don't understand with the newer consoles where all you have to do is leave them in the case.

If anyone is having trouble finding accessories for the GameCube, Nintendo still sells a few things online (including the Broadband Adapter).

ok honestly this thread has made me want to get a gamecube. dammit, I have so many systems already. I don't own a wii though... I know this is the wrong thread to do this...but hopefully it's not a big deal. I have an extra N64 with expansion pack. Anyone willing to trade for a GC? I need my RE1 remake back

The reason why GC controllers are hard to find is because you need them if you are going to play Smash Bros. They are good controllers but don't tend to last too long.
