The original Rainbow Six for FPS?
interesting.
I hope not :( . Not a fan of that series.

Fast might get mad if we start talking about titles though!

I had Rainbow Six for PS1, but don't even remember it. Is it even a FPS? It's more tactical and stealthy than what you'd normally call a FPS. Right? Or wrong?

I don't think Fast will get mad about title suggestions peppered in, but everyone should remember he's looking for a calendar outline of genres to fill 12 months first things first.

It's definitely more of a stealthy game. There is one level that you can't be seen, else you lose immediately! But it is an FPS - it's first person and it's a shooter.

It is on the Nintendo 64, PlayStation, Dreamcast, the PlayStation Network, and Windows/Mac.

well like I said it's an interesting suggestion as it's not the first thing I'd come up with when thinking FPS. I'm sure all member suggestions will at least be considered.

Rainbow Six is generally referred to as a tactical FPS. There are a few subcategories of FPS, and the more realistic titles tend to end up in that one. It's not everybody's cup of tea, but I'm glad to see FPS get a nod on this list.

A couple of things I'd like to address: first, guys, please cut the jokes. We're trying to be serious about setting up this schedule, and we'd appreciate real feedback, not "every month is a SHMUP month!" or anything else...though I do appreciate the nods to survival horror in October.

Second, I know romhacks were suggested in one person's list. I'd say we shouldn't go for romhacks. Regardless of one's personal opinion on emulation, they're not the original game. The focus of Together Retro is to play classics we've never tried, not find new compositions for old games. That said, if you do encounter an interesting romhack of a game we're playing, discussing it and its changes in the forum are ok.

Now here's what I think we ought to go with:

Jan: RPG
Feb: Run and Gun
March: Puzzle
April: Adventure
May: Racing
June: Sports
July: Shmup
Aug: Platformer
Sept: Fighting
Oct: Survival Horror
Nov: Simulation
Dec: FPS

I looked over the recent months when creating this, hence why fighters, platformers, and shooters come in the latter half of the year, as those have all appeared in recent months, though they are staple genres.

I like the separate months for sports and racing, but not next to one another as they are similar to many people. What games are you referring to as simulation - just stuff like Civ or SimCity?

Something like civilisation, sim city,or theme park (especially theme park as i alreayd own it and havent played it ;) ) would be pretty cool, I just hope he didnt mean something like Microsoft Flight Simulator.

BTW would the likes of harvest moon and animal crossing count as a 'sim'.

I'm noticing beat-em-up/ hack and slash arent seeming very popular.

I'm changing things up a bit by adding Party and Compilations. Notice that I added Party in December since family will be around and can do four player matches 8)
