anyplace to still get a GBA afterburner screen?

Can't you swap out the lit screens of the SP and put them in the old model? Buying a GBASP in not too great a condition will probably run you the same kinda money anyway.

I installed an Afterburner in my GBA when they came out, frankly they are a bad investment. The image changes from crisp to very pixilated, the colours are washed out too. You're far better getting a GBA SP.

This was more of a "just wondering" thing.

Yeah man, not to try to talk you out of it, but, well... as great as it was at the time, the screen quality of my Afterburned GBA is vastly inferior to the systems that replaced it. I understand if you prefer the form factor of the original GBA to the SP, though. I prefer mushy buttons myself, and for me, the ideal solution is playing GBA games on my DS Lite.

I'd just hate for you to go to a lot of trouble only to find it wasn't worth the effort. If you still want to pursue one, as a historical oddity, the soldering is pretty minimal, so... what do you have to lose, I guess?

my interest is almost completely historical. Though yes, the form factor of the original GBA is far more comfortable than the SP. DS is no solution mang -- no GB or GBC support!!

Not without an emulator, anyway. Luckily DS flashcards are cheap, and Lameboy works really well on the DS. Now, GBA on the DSi? That's an issue.

But yeah, I still wish the actual cartridges would work.
