Step One: Go to goodwill.

Step Two: Get some nice looking vintage speakers.

Step Three: Re-foam the woofers at your local speaker shop for about $25 total.

Step Four: Enjoy better sound than most anything from the last 10-15 years and keep the lady pleased with the aesthetics!

This is why I'm glad my fiance is on my side in terms of electronics. "We need more shit! More laserdisc players! more speakers! More record players!" Although she doesn't see why I want to upgrade the flat panel a few years down the line.

My suggestion would be to get in wall speakers, and have a very nice grill on the front. Make it match the wall or compliment the decor/color of the room. Cloth or metal. And you can have all your speakers mounted in the wall ceiling as well. And if she's bitching about the clutter with electronics, get a in wall AV rack or even better an AV Closet. Yeah, its gonna cost you, but it will all look very nice.
Boy I tell you what, are those some god dang video games?
