Collecting vs. Just Playing Games

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I didn't specificially call anyone a white knight...but thanks for volunteering yourselves.

There's just a weird vibe on these forums where many members (not necessarily those in this thread) go ape shit on pirates. It's something I don't see on anywhere else.

For the record, I meant the OP was realistically in the clear....not legally or morally.

I recently sold my modded 360 and have opted to go legit when it comes to console games...so I'm certainly not knocking anyone for doing that...it's more the attitude of certain gamers and sellers in the community that annoys me.

Yes, quite hypocritical to be.
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

I'm sure a lot of people on here have played roms of old games or arcade games that aren't available by any other means than a cab. But the oxymoronic "legally pirate" and opening sentence were a bit much.
Recently, I made the decision to stop paying money for most of my games. Instead, I'm gonna be modding a few of my systems, and burning games for them.
I think most people here do try to buy most of their games when possible or financially feasible in the case of rare and pricey ones, but saying you're just going to pirate everything does seem to go against the 'community standards' here.

Agree, there is a level of integrity here that a lot of blogs don't have. Piracy does happen,
I think everyone does have some gray area skeletons in one form or another. be it the Dreamcast CDRs or the Mame Roms.
But to come out and blatantly be proud of it?

Double agree.

I went through the modded PS1 and Saturn stage in high school, but to be fair I actually did have a decent collection for each system at the time (probably 25-30 PS1 games and a dozen Saturn games, including Dragon Force!) in addition to the stuff I ripped. I did mod my PS2 in university, but within a year I ended up buying all the games I wanted anyway. Since that, pretty much all my emulation has been with games I already own (I do try some stuff out before I buy sometimes, if it's a bit expensive). My Wii has the homebrew channel, and it only has games on there that I own. Likewise with my R4 card on my DS (way more convenient than lugging a bunch of carts around! Plus, Mega Man 2 on the subway is a good thing.).

Of course I played around with MAME (still do) and Neo Geo ROMS... but eventually I did get a Neo Geo AES and CD system and most of the best MAME shooters and fighters are on the Saturn/PS1/PS2. I don't feel bad about using something like Ghouls 'n Ghosts on MAME on my PC when I own both the Mega Drive and Super Grafx carts. Likewise, when a company refuses to play nice (ie. IF Sega makes Outrun HD unavailable to re-download when I've already purchased it), I don't feel bad about burning myself a copy of the PS2 or X-Box game.

I have always been pro collecting and con pirating. I love looking at my bookshelves stuffed full of awesome gaming memories from over the years. I'm 23 now and I dont see that changing for me anytime soon. Digital distribution for full scale games games can suck it!
