I mean all the Shenmue discs sorry. With it being a 4 disc game, if none will boot up, then obviously it's not a disc issue.

Disc one will not boot. Discs 2-4 will boot to the 'load your game' menu and then go to black.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

And you say you had already replaced disc 1? :? Did it do the same thing before?

This is very odd, I don't know about VGA, but it should work fine with S Video I would have thought. Hopefully someone can help you, as I'm pretty clueless myself sorry.

Wip3outguy7 has already trouble shot for me and we're pretty certain it's a problem with a chip, i.e. nothing easily fixable.

But then again, I've waited like 10 years to play Shenmue. I can wait a little longer while I find a replacement DC!

Well, good luck with your search for a new Dreamcast! Luckily they're not too hard to track down, nor too expensive.

The U.S. Shenmue original discs supports VGA out of the box.
A patched Shenmue 2 PAL version will work but is missing sound files due to size limitation of a CDR.
The best way is to use an original PAL Shenmue 2. The VGA mode works with not Game Shark, but a patched Action Replay CDX.

I think it's four discs.

If you bought it on Xbox you deserve to play it on the Dreamcast. It's a joke that it didn't get released in North America on the DC just to make it an Xbox exclusive. And people wonder why the DC didn't do well (not that anyone was buying the Shenmue games anyway).
