Saturn region switch... how?

Post by opethfan »

Hey, I'm looking at doing the region mod on my Saturn when it arrives, and although I understand the concept of the mod, very few guides exist on where each leg of the switch goes. I know you use a DPDT switch which as 6 contacts, and the common points go to the middle, but where do the 5v and ground go? And for which jumper? If anyone has any diagrams or suggestions, it wouldn't go unthanked.

I don't have a Saturn, but found this for you. Region and 50/60hz settings. Looks like more to it then just a six pole switch.

Gamesx to the rescue:

I have not done one in a while, but it's just soldiering 6 wires. Very fun mod to perform. I don't know what all the mmmonkey thing is, looks way to complicated (I didn't read it all).

The difference is, (IIRC), that the one from GamesX is just for a 2 region switch, while the one from mmmonkey will allow you to switch between all 3 regions with a single switch.

So, how's this?

That's a pic of my Saturn's mainboard, with my crappy photoshopping. Red is JPN, blue is USA, and purple is common.

I would go for http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/sega/ ... timate.htm
Easy to do, no ugly external switch.
I have done 2 saturns this way and both friends are happy.
