SNES has more crisp sound and Genesis usually had sound that sounded like the duty cycle was always at 25%, which makes it really suck and hard to make good crisp sounds with.

The 68000 will eat the 65816 for breafast. Much better processor. No contest there.

The Genesis has like 68K of RAM. The SNES as far as I have read has about 128K+16K for SRAM. Much more, but yet, it can't move as much in one frame so it's hard to say if the quantity was more.

The graphics.....Genesis is more lifelike, but SNES again, shined if crispness. It depends on what you like.

As for me, I like the Genesis ALOT, But never got the feel of the controllers. They feel so bulky while the SNES ones just curve to your hands.

Thats my take. The specs are close, the games are both good, I'd take either one. Ecco the Dolphin is amazing, and so is Mario World+All Stars. ^_^

Y'all must have small hands because I have never held a more comfortable controller than the 3 button Genesis.

I only called it NHL '91 and not NHL Hockey for the sake of simplicity in order to group the whole series together. And really, who cares. This post was not worth getting out of bed for.

THE WORLD MUST KNOW THE TRUTH! NHL HOCKEY IS NHL '92!!!!!1!

I alsop noticed this, if your willing to pay alot of money for great games then go for the snes but if your on a budget then go for the genesis. I noticed that alot of the same games that are on both systems are alot more money on the snes than the genesis.

They're usually better on the SNES too. Also, trying to buy Alien Soldier is not what I would call "gaming on a budget" ;)

There's no denying that the SNES had more exclusives that were overall better reviewed than the Genesis. SNES hardware was superior except for the Genesis' faster processor and higher resolution. With that being said I grew up with the Genesis and some of my favourite games are only on it and a large number of SNES exclusives I really can't get into. Perhaps we should have a series of 16-bit game head to heads. I know I must be missing some games on this list and some of the pairings could be disputed but I'm just throwing this out there.

Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island vs Sonic 1,2,3&Knuckles
Super Castlevania IV vs Castlevania: Bloodlines
Sparkster vs Rocket Knight Adventures 1,2
Donkey Kong Country 1,2,3 vs ??
Kirby Superstar vs ??
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past vs ??
?? vs Ecco the Dolphin 1,2

Contra 3: Aliens Wars vs Contra: Hard Corps
Super Metroid vs ??
?? vs Gunstar Heroes
?? vs Vectorman 1,2
Mega Man X,X2,X3 vs ??
Super Ghouls n Ghosts vs Ghouls n Ghostss

Final Fight 1,2,3 vs Streets of Rage 1,2,3
Killer Instinct vs Eternal Champions

Final Fantasy 2,3 vs Phantasy Star 2,3,4
Chrono Trigger vs ??
Secret of Mana vs ??
Super Mario RPG vs ??
?? vs Shining Force 1,2

Ogre Battle vs ??
?? vs Herzog Zwei

Super Bomberman 1,2 vs Mega Bomberman
?? vs General Chaos
Super Mario Kart vs ??

Kirby's Avalanche vs Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Tetris Attack vs ??
Dr. Mario vs ??

As for the controllers. SNES having shoulder buttons was a nice innovation but particularly with Street Fighter I prefered the Genesis 6-button pad (would've been even better if they added shoulder buttons). That pad is pretty much superior in every way to the 3 button pad (except for being smaller which could be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the person). I remember disliking the dpad on two versions of the 3 button genesis controllers I used to have. I haven't played the SNES enough to say whether its dpad is better or worse than the genesis 6 button.
