Favorite guns in shooters
Re: Favorite guns in shooters
Am I the only one surprised that nobody ever emulated the Contra spread gun in a FPS? Correct me if I'm wrong here, I'm not huge into FPS games.

I supposed it's a little twisted, but I always loved getting these things to latch onto the heads of my enemies in Turok, burrow into their skull, and then explode.

Gotta mention the awesomeness of shotguns again after playing a bit of Mass Effect 2 recently. I'm playing around with the Vangard class and boy do they make shotguns fun. With their class specific "charge" ability, you can dash across a battlefield like the flash and bash into someone. The resulting impact will either send them flying, knock them down or leave them stunned, which sets them up nicely for a nice, big shotgun blast to the face! You can then proceed to blast anyone else who was near them with two or three more shotgun blasts.
Vangards are a fun, "in your f***ing face" kind of class and really get the most out of shotguns since they typically charge right into enemy ranks in the blink of an eye. No enemy is safe against them. It doesn't matter if you're behind cover or with a group, vangards will get to you...and they will kill you. Tough to use on insanity mode though, but only because of their high risk fighting style. It's fun and rewarding though

I loved playing a vanguard in the first Mass Effect, but I switched it up in ME2 and used an infiltrator class. Had a lot of fun cloaking myself, finding a good spot, and lighting people up.Gamerforlife wrote:Gotta mention the awesomeness of shotguns again after playing a bit of Mass Effect 2 recently. The RCP-90 from Goldeneye. especially when dual-wielded. It was like a stapler machine gun. I'm also fond of the Needler from Halo.

I might try that for my Insanity mode run. Much as I love shotguns, the tactical approach of sniping is quite enjoyable too. There's something satisfying about picking people off while they are distracted fighting your squad. That's probably my second favorite weapon. Sniper rifles. I seem to love the two extremes of combat.
