A few questions:

How do I reliably throw my opponent? It seems totally random, and it's necessary to defeat Shredder shortly into the game.

What's up with those pink guys? Is there any way to beat them besides the special move which saps a life bar? If I encounter one with just one life bar left, am I just fucked?

Do X, A, L, and R do anything at all? Seems like a waste.

Edit: Oh, and what's up with pause being select? Is start used for something else?

You throw them by holding the d-pad towards them and hitting the attack button. To slam them, you hit up or down while hitting attack or just don't touch the d-pad at all. The slam is my bread and butter move. Destroys groups of enemies

Are the pink guys the ones who block? Haven't played in a while. You beat them by running and bashing into them. I think the running slide works too. Or try hitting them from behind. Do a jump attack and try and land behind them for an attack
