Hiding speakers in a home theater setup?
Hey everyone. I want to have surround sound at some point or even just a 2.1 setup. But my fiancé isn't crazy about more stuff sitting around the TV, with all my game stuff there already. Does anyone have any suggestions for ways to hide speakers? I know I could use wireless speakers or something, but I was thinking more McGuyver type ways, like hiding speakers in nice wicker baskets, or something. Thoughts?

Didn't you have a post about putting up a kinect or ps eye; do you really want more stuff to put up?
I know you're trying to hide them but how do you think your fiancé would feel about wall mounted speakers? You could put them in the corners of the room or somewhere else out of the way.

Well, too much hiding and you're going to decrease your audio quality. I'd just get ones that look nicer or compliment your setup. Or you could get one of those surround sound bars.
On my work-in-progress setup, I have 3 speakers up front and then I have in-ceiling units for surrounds. I have the wire going through the wall/ceiling, so it's pretty much transparent. Every little bit helps

Well played sir, well played. I have decided to put Move/Kinect on the back burner for a while. At least until a game comes out that I really want. The speakers would have immediate benefits. I watched a movie at a friends house with 5.1 and it made me so jealous. I have been looking at soundbars too. I have a Samsung TV and they do make a soundbar. I love logitech products but they look really cheap. I think I need a new TV stand first to clean up the look. Thanks for your feedback!Opa Opa wrote:Didn't you have a post about putting up a kinect or ps eye; do you really want more stuff to put up?![]()

I wish I could install speakers in my ceiling. Unfortunately, that wont work in this rented, pre-war apartment building. How is almost everything made of concrete?!racketboy wrote:Jerkface Killah wrote:Hey everyone. I want to have surround sound at some point or even just a 2.1 setup. Re: Hiding speakers in a home theater setup?
One thing that I can't figure out is why a lot of my friends-relatives have their huge LCDs with no speakers back on either side of the sitting area. All the sounds blast from the front.
Maybe go simpler to appease the boss. Couple compact bookshelf speakers on either side of the couch on book shelves or table facing each other. Use the aux input of your existing stereo combined with the HDTV speakers in the front. No its not surround, but sounds great!

Maybe suggest that if speakers next to the TV is the worst thing that happens to her, she's pretty lucky.
If your fiance is bitching about your electronics now, just wait.

Cut a hole in the wall and mount a speaker behind a mesh - then paint said mesh the wall color. Repeat for other speakers. Bitching over~Jerkface Killah wrote:Hey everyone.
