Teeworlds

Post by durkada »

PC gaming has been good to me this year. I mean, there was Civ V, afterall.

And so it goes, I'm enjoying one of those fleeting period of PC gaming enthusiasm. It happens periodically... Sins of a Solar Empire, Demigod, Torchlight, all kicked off these bouts which are partly mired in the nostalgia of using a PC as a toy, and again, are in awe at how awesome the games are.

I've been reading some of the suggestions people posted about great games, and thought I would share one.

Teeworlds. Its open source, its artsy, its retro, its multi-player, its awesome. http://www.teeworlds.com/. Imagine Quake as a 2D platformer with ninja rope. That is Teeworlds. Its native for most platforms: Linux, BSD, Winders, Mac.

Hope to see you fragging.

I played this a while back on Linux; it was pretty fun, but the keyboard controls made things confusing. I think I'll use a USB pad next time I play it, because I was getting thoroughly owned before.

From the description, it sounds a lot like Liero.

Mmm. I think the similarities are superficial. Granted, I've not played Liero in years, but didn't like it much. Liero played like a real-time game of Worms... I think that was their design principle. Teeworlds plays alot more like a classic Mario platformer mixed with Quake.

Liero is real-time Worms, but to be honest, isn't "real-time Worms" well described by "2d quake with ninja ropes"? :)

Granted I saw a video of Teeworlds and it doesn't seem to have the tunnel digging, terrain blowing part that Liero has (inherited from Worms).

I just wanted to let everyone know that this game isn' just for the PC; a port was also made to Android. And you know what the best part? It's an Android exclusive! Android DOES! You can't do this on the iPhone, Android DOES! [Sorry, I don't mean to start a flame war; it just isn't that often that I get to say that.]
