Nintendo WFC
Forgive me if this has been adressed in another thread, I searched but didn't find an answer to my question. How long do you think Nintendo will support/continue the Wi-Fi connection when the 3DS comes out,or will it also use this service. I usually stay one or 2 generations behind the cutting edge for finacial reasons, see user name, and I love the fact that I can pick up my DS and play against other humans. I hope that Nintendo doesn't discontinue the service. Thanks for your replies.

Re: Nintendo WFC
Considering its popularity, I could see online gaming for the DS going for a while. It will probably drop less popular games from WFC, but Mario Kart DS, among others, could last for a long time.

Or they'll just make their own servers like with the DC and GCN.noiseredux wrote:and after that I bet someone will figure out a way around it. Like the xkai link thing.

Re: Nintendo WFC
Nintendo handles the server duties for all DS / Wii WFC games, right? It's not farmed out to the developers?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: Nintendo WFC
I'm about 95% sure; Nintendo likes to have control over this kind of stuff. Plus we saw what happened with the server shutdowns with the Dreamcast and GameCube.Flake wrote:Nintendo handles the server duties for all DS / Wii WFC games, right? It's not farmed out to the developers?

Re: Nintendo WFC
The Xlink Kai team tried that a while back, and actually got it somewhat working, but said it was too slow to be practical. Maybe they'll take another shot at it soon, though. Use of their oXbox servers greatly increased after oXbox Live shut down, so maybe when all the DS servers go offline, the demand will be great enough to try again.noiseredux wrote:and after that I bet someone will figure out a way around it.
