Re: Enslaved...
As I said in the previous thread about this game, I will not buy a single Namco game until Tales of Vesperia: Complete or Tales of Graces/Tales of Graces F is localized. I don't think I'll be missing out on too much. Besides, if I wanted to see the story of this game, I could just play a Dragonball game.

Re: Enslaved...
It did look really cool... I'll have to check it out when I get a chance. And even if it's crappy I can just pretend Monkey is Goku and have a good time.
My life for Aiur.
Re: Enslaved...
I enjoyed the demo, but my backlog is huge right now. I'll probably eventually pick it up though.
Re: Enslaved...
Took me 2 nights to finish it. Once you pick it up you won't put it down!jfe2 wrote:I enjoyed the demo, but my backlog is huge right now. I'll probably eventually pick it up though.

Re: Enslaved...
Tried the demo, pretty run of the mill in terms of gameplay, but well designed. The storytelling drew me in though. I found myself hating and liking that female character at the same time after going through the demo
I might check this out. Is there a better version between the ps3 and 360 versions?

360 is better, I've read.Gamerforlife wrote:Tried the demo, pretty run of the mill in terms of gameplay, but well designed. The storytelling drew me in though. I found myself hating and liking that female character at the same time after going through the demo![]()

I've bought this game twice now, from two different companies and I STILL haven't fucking got it. It's been nearly 3 weeks now. I'm seriously fucked off. I want to play the game damn it!!

Re: Enslaved...
Well I wanted to try the 360 version since Lens of Truth and Digital Foundry rated it slightly higher than the PS3 version, but the local Walmart only had the PS3 version and I wanted to use the Walmart gift cards I had. So I basically got it for free. I'll pick up the 360 version somewhere down the road and maybe even keep it as a sealed copy. Given how rapidly the price is dropping on this game(it was 30 dollars at Walmart), picking up a second copy in a few months should cost practically nothing. I think Enslaved is destined for the bargain bin along with so many other under-appreciated titles
Anyway, working my way through chapter 2 and for all intents and purposes this is a sci-fi infused, more action packed version of Ico. I've heard people compare it to Prince of Persia, but the game so far is giving off much more of an Ico vibe to me. The Prince of Persia games were never truly about two people working together or one character having to keep another one safe. Those games were mostly about the Prince doing everything and occasionally needing some help from a female characer or having to protect her. The POP games were pretty much ALL about the Prince.
Enslaved seems much more like a game about two people, just like Ico was. You always have to keep Trip protected, but she will pull her weight and help you when she can. There are moments that are so Ico, like when she nearly falls to her death and you have to quickly grab her arm and pull her up, or when you have to call her over to you, or find some way to help her get through an area, or when you have to dive into battle to save her from some bad guys. Moments when you carry her remind me of the hand holding you had to do to lead Yorda around in Ico. Plus, she shows so much concern for Monkey whenever he is doing something dangerous. Reminds me of the audible gasps from Yorda when Ico would fall off of a high ledge. The only thing that feels like Prince of Persia is the platforming, but Prince of Persia is pretty much the standard all modern platformers copy, so that's to be expected
I'm digging the game so far. It's so cheap right now, anybody should give it a shot

Re: Enslaved...
Well, I made it to chapter 5, not that I think anyone is still reading this thread
Pretty enjoyable experience so far. I have a few minor gripes though. The platforming is very anal retentive. Meaning that sometimes you can't get your character to jump because he's not standing in the right spot or doesn't have the camera angled the right way. It's done to keep players from doing an ill-advised jump and killing themself, but it feels a bit weird to not be 100% in control of my character. I think this is what some people mean when they say the game feels unresponsive at times. It hasn't been a huge issue for me though as whenever I'm in a life or death scenario where I absolutely NEED my character to jump NOW, he usually does. So they made sure to fine tune the platforming for those parts where it matters most
Also, and this is my biggest gripe with the game so far, Trip has this annoying tendency to not give a rat's ass about what the player is doing. She never follows you but rather expects you to be behind her at all times like a trained puppy dog. What makes this annoying is that every area in the game begs to be explored for red orbs and other items. Yet every time you get too far away from her, which is inevitable given that she is too stupid to follow you, you'll be chastised by her and hear, "you're leaving me behind!". I actually got killed by the game in chapter 5 because I got too far away from her while trying to explore the area, which means that everything I collected in that area I lost. I turned off my PS 3 in frustration at that point
So you basically need to always be aware of just how far away from her you're allowed to go when you're exploring which is really stupid. You have the option to carry her if you want her to stay with you but that's annoying and also limits your maneuverability. I never cease to be amazed by the total lack of common sense game designers have. It's like your playing a game that is non-linear on the surface, but really linear at its core
It's still a great game though. The storytelling is top notch in every way(the facial expressions are VERY impressive)and the gameplay is pretty good for the most part, though I do occasionally get annoyed by how unreliable the camera can be in combat, but what game isn't guilty of that these days? I like that Monkey has a shield he automatically puts up whenever he is being shot at, but it can only take so much damage. That's attention to detail as any other game would just let you take damage from the bullets and then throw a health pack your way, which is lazy and uninspired. I also enjoy being able to use Trip as a decoy in some situations. This works both ways as you have to get an enemy's attention sometimes so she can move to safety. I really like seeing the two characters use teamwork and tactics to get through a situation. Compare this to something like Gears of War where you kill everything in the area by yourself after watching your useless, dumb fuck squad mates all get killed
I've encountered a few bugs and glitches in the game, but nothing that has hampered my performance, just things that made me go WTF? Not like I expect to play anything these days that DOESN'T have bugs/glitches.
