Played this for a while today. Yknow, I like it more than I thought. So far I can only make it to the 5th round, Osaka (on default difficulty/continues/etc).

I had a play thru this the other day, I have it on SNK Arcade Classics for the wii. I quite enjoyed it tbh and its cool that its the together game this month. I'll have another play tonight and come back with some more in depth thoughts.

btw, how do you pick up cars and things? done it a couple of times by accident but I dont know how to repeat it

I used to really enjoy the original Neo Geo King of the Monsters, but I remember it got kind of boring and repetitive after awhile.

I picked up the PS2 version and played it a little bit recently. I found it really entertaining for the first level or two, but then I got to some boss character that threw explosive barrells at me and the only I could figure out how to damage him was to catch them before they exploded, and throw them back at him just in time. This demanded too much precision for my patience and I got really tired of the controls and gave up.

Had another play last night, I can get as far as the 5th round as well before I have to use a continue.

Can anbody explain to me how to execute throws and how the grapples work? I feel like I'm just button mashing and would like to know how to play properly and GameFaqs wasnt much help either.

I remember seeing this on GamesMaster when I was a kid and being blown away by the size of the sprites and the amount of destruction on the screen. Graphically it hasnt aged very well but its still fun to play and watch.

Gamefaqs has a list of the moves. Rocky seems to be the one with the most throws and holds, AstroGuy the least.

I don't have access to King of Monsters just yet, but I did play through King of Monsters 2 tonight, and I had a lot of fun with it. The boss rush near the end was a little much, and some of the grapples were VERY cheap, but overall the game was entertaining.

Yeah I saw the list of moves but I'm still struggling to pull them off reliably. Also when grappling there seems to be something that I can do to reverse it but I catn yet put my finger on what it is.

I can't help but compare this one to Godzilla Domination (GBA) seeing has how Domination is basically just King Of The Monsters with actual Godzilla characters. And seeing how well Domination pulls everything off just furthers my belief that I really don't like King Of The Monsters. The controls are clunky and not responsive enough. The game is basically a button-masher in my opinion. The characters are kind of generically meh. And the roster is puny. Godzilla Domination would later fix all these problems PLUS... King Ghidorah FTW!!!

In King of Monsters II, the trick seemed to be going left to right on the joystick rapidly. The computer cheats in that game though! The A.I. almost always wins! It's like random.

Ah I see, I'd been pushing the stick one way or the other but couldnt find a pattern to it. I'll try waggling it backwards and forwards see it that makes any difference.

I've been playing a lot of the other games on SNK Arcade Classics and teh computer seems to cheat a lot. I guess thats due to them being designed for coin ops
