Too bad you can only install PSN downloadables from one region at a time, isn't it? I have PS1 games from both the Canadian and Japanese PSN. Sucks that I can't have access to it all at once like the case with the PS3...

I noticed there are another couple Japanese PS1 downloads on the North American PSN; Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty and Magical Drop F.

Magical Drop is pretty fun. I've had one on the Saturn. Outlaws is... meh. Three Kingdoms fighting game that looks cool in pictures, but just plays just okay with so-so animation. I'm judging by the Saturn version and assuming the PS1 version is the same. The first two JP games were better.

What are the MUST HAVE Japanese shmups? I've been wanting to get down on some for PS3 but I never saw any US ones that interested me..

In regards to purchasing JP games with a JP PSN card, I need to sign up a new additional account to do this?

Yeah. Just create an account with Japan as your location. Anything you download from there is usable from ANY account on your PS3. It works really well. There is a tutorial somewhere on the net on how to navigate the Japanese menu.

On the PSN? Quite a few. Some of these have been released in the US (on the PS1 or TG-16), but have not made it to the US PSN. They are marked with an *. I'll list a few of the ones I like:

PS3:
Raystorm HD

PS1:
Cotton 100%
DonPachi
DoDonPachi
Einhander*
G-Darius*
Raycrisis*
Raystorm*
Shienryu
Space Invaders (not sure if it came out on the US PS1)
Thunder Force V*

PC Engine/Turbografx-16
Blazing Lazers*
Gate of Thunder*
Gradius
Winds of Thunder* (released in the US as Lords of Thunder)
Salamander (aka Life Force)
Soldier Blade*
Super Star Soldier*
Twin Bee

If I were to pick the top 5, I'd say:

DoDonPachi
Soldier Blade
Gates of Thunder
Winds of Thunder
Einhander

Yeah, the Turbografx/PC Engine section has been growing well on the PSN. There's a pretty decent selection of action/platformers as well; the three Bonk games, New Adventure Island, Devil's Crush, Alien Crush, Bomberman '94, Ghouls 'n Ghosts (Supergrafx!), etc. Nothing that isn't on the Wii (actually, I don't think Ghouls 'n Ghosts or any other Supergrafx games are on the Wii), but there is a growing collection on PSN. That is a good thing! Plus, they all have save states! Just push L1 during gameplay. The save state menu is in Japanese, but after a bit of experimentation and you'll be fine.

Also, there is a number of these games (the same JP versions) that are listed on the HONG KONG PSN, which you can select to be in English. A bit easier, figured I'd give anyone interested a heads up.
