Anyone "Power-up" at GameStop?

Post by Veno »

Just went to Gamestop today after school with some friends, and they told me about this new edge card that came out a few days ago or something. It's called their new Rewards card, and I was wondering why a new card all of a sudden.

Holy crap, this actually seems like a pretty good membership. Since I already had an edge card, I got a free upgrade to Rewards Pro, which has more bonuses than the free standard. Anything you do from buying used games, new games, or accessories, to trading in games, gets you points, or credit. These points can be used to get some goodies like gift cards and other swag. And it also has all the functionally of the previous edge card.

You get 250 points off the bat for activating your card for Rewards Pro, and 250 more for completing your gamer survey, which is just easy stuff. I got yet another 250 for adding 1 game to my games collection list, which totaled to 750 points.

I know some of you hate gamestop, but I happen to like gamestop. The local gamestop I have near my area is the most awesome gamestop I've ever been to, with some of the best employee's I've met yet. So anyone else get the free upgrade to Rewards Pro?

I got the free version of the power up card. I don't expect much out of it. But if in a year or two gamestop gives me something for free I will take.

Tell us how you really feel. I hope to actually hear what people think of this but I think we will get mostly "Gamestop rips you off, they open shit, I had a rude clerk once, they are dirty capitalist only running a business with the sole intent of making money" I don't like a lot of their policies but I still shop there because sometimes they have the best prices on games.

I have a regular Edge card from a while back. I'm pretty sure it hasn't expired yet so I should probably upgrade. Thanks for letting us know. I, like you, don't hate Gamestop. Honestly other than the fact that they charge too much for used games in my opinion they don't really do anything that annoys me.

Do you happen to know how many points it takes for a gift card?

I signed up for it definitely has a better rewards program compared to the old Edge card. I got the Pro card since I buy games pretty often at GameStop due to pre-order incentives. I'm looking forward to various rewards offered.

The card isn't available in my area yet, but I'm really interested in it. It sucks that they are only letting people in certain areas use the card.

Where's Modman?

After the initial free upgrade, what is the annual fee?
Also as asked earlier, how many points equal cash value of gift card?
I think the current old edge card is 15 bucks a year with the magazine.

Here is what I found at the Gamestop site.
Looks like another marketing tracking, receive points by signing up online.

I’m not sure if early entrance to a midnight launch is a good incentive either. The employees aren’t allowed to sell the game until midnight no matter how special you are anyhow. And, unless you live next to an ultra-awesome store, those launches have little else to offer. Furthermore, the lines really aren’t long enough to warrant a rewards system that allows you to skip ahead.

If you don't have a card yet, you have to pay 15 bucks to get Reward Pro. Or you can get the standard one for free, but of course, Pro is the one with all the extra features. From this, I'm guessing each renewal should be 10-15 bucks. I think renewals are cheaper, so I'm thinking 10 bucks.

Honestly, I'm not gonna be buying games to get free controllers for free headphones. I'm more interested in the small stuff, like gift cards, possibly PSN cards, and cheap swag thats worth 5 bucks or a little more.

You sure you don't work for GameStop? Haha, jk.

Seems like a cool deal, I may do it. I don't love or hate gamestop. To me, it's just another store at the strip mall.

Looks to be the same price as the current Edge Card with the magazine, a replacement. Not too keen on the idea of registering online giving Gamestop more marketing info. The free one is basically worthless to me since there is no discount on used games.
