neither does this. It uses something shaped very much LIKE an N64 controller.

At one time, NES clones might have been illegal to sell due to patent issues, but the NES patents have all expired now, IIRC. The ones that are illegal now are the ones that come with a bunch of pirated games built in. It's the pirated games themselves that are illegal, not the hardware that runs them. NES clones with no games built in should be fine.

No. It's obviously an N64 controller that's been modded. If it were just an 8-bit NES clone, why would it need the six buttons? And I HIGHLY doubt that is a genuine Innovation product. I don't believe they would make a piece of shit like this. Especially with the cheap replicated Nintendo seal of quality logo. I think the "small vendor at the mall" should be a dead giveaway.

HOWEVER, it might be worth picking up if it works alright. But I'm having trouble reading the packaging here. Is there anything special about how it works?

Famiclones stick on extra buttons all the time. Usually, the extras are turbo.

I have two famiclones, one modeled after a gameboy and one modeled after a dreamcast controller. Both have four face buttons in addition to start and select. The gameboy one is a shady Hong Kong deal. The knock-off Dreamcast controller, however, is legit. It was sold by Pelican and had licensed copies of most (all?) of the Colordreams games built in.

I would seriously be shocked if this were actually a modded N64 controller, because it would be much cheaper for the manufacturers to build a knock-off than get real ones.

Ok I'll give you that. Still having a tough time believing this is an Innovation product though. lol

There are famiclones out there shaped like a PS1, with imitation PlayStation controllers, and even a working CD drive cover despite the lack of a CD drive.

I seriously doubt they're gutting and modding real N64 controllers just to put fake NES innards in them. It's very possible that's not the "Innovation" we're used to dealing with though.

It probably looks a lot like the inside of this famiclone:

(scroll down to see it opened up. The NES-on-a-chip is pretty small.)

If I end up getting one, I'd consider taking a screw driver to it -- closest thing to smashing it ;P
