That's half the price I was seeing at Best Buy (surprise, surprise). But can you explain to me why that one is a good deal at $12 and why those other cables can be $1? Are there cable types I need to look out for?

Frys, I can walk right in and refund if it doesn't work. Besides a known franchise, have pretty good luck over the years, a loyal customer since they started in the Bay area.

VGA Dollar cables doesn't seem right. Maybe shipping is high.

I'll probably follow your example. $12 sounds fair. $1 sounds too good to be true. That usually means a lot of hassle and then buying the $12 cable anyway.

Till then I'll just have to deal with S-Video. At least it's better than Composite.

The S-Video will come in handy for DC games that don't support VGA.
Just slide box bypass switch, for S-Video to your TV.

See the PC connection? That's it.

I purchased the actual box from this site along with a VGA cable. It extended the length quite nicely and reaches my TV with no problem, as well as leaving S-Video an option in case I run into a game that won't work with VGA.
