What is a Regulation 7 Dreamcast?

Post by Daniel Primed »

I can't help but feel that the bias of Sega fans on this board has some how influenced my decision to buy a Dreamcast(my first Sega console too). Anyways, I have a pile of question to ask, but I don't want to talk about that now. I still need to conduct more research. But there is one burning question that I have to ask.

What is a Regulation 7 Dreamcast?

I already do know what it is but I'm a little confused. All of the forum posts that I have read all have people suggesting that anyone looking for a DC should buy a Regulation 7 version. But I'm not sure what the advantage is, sure its used in Japan for linking machines together(or something like that) but how does this benefit me? Is it spose to be more powerful?

I'm a little confused so I just need some clarification, thats all.

I doubt for a moment it's any different to a regular Dreamcast other than being much rarer. Maybe the people were recommending based on it giving you a good 'hardcore' collector respect or some sort.

Maybe Regulation 7 is code for the models that will play mil CD and burned CDs. Some later models wouldn't.

Regulation 7 stands for all these funny little Shops in Tokyo that are not very appreciated.(Red Light District...)

But thats only the Name^^

Also: The R7 Dreamcast should come shipped with a Broadband Adapter.

Otherwise:
Its a Limited Edition Dreamcast that every Dreamcast Fan should own^

I read somewhere that it was intended for casino use.

The production was only 500 models. There isn't much reason to have one unless you're an insane collector. They pop up on ebay every now and then. Much like the sega sports edition, the logo for reg 7 is on the console and the pack-in controller.

If you're looking to buy your first dreamcast, get a regular ol' dc. If you want something a little special, you might try the sports edition. It's not any different, but it's a limited edition, but not as limited as any of the reg 7, seaman edition, or other super crazy rare releases.

Which is wrong...

The R7 is the cheapest Limited Edition Dreamcast with 2000 Units at the Start.
It was used for Pachinko Parlors by the way.

And just as I said:
it is a nice Dreamcast, since it is shipped with a Broadband Adapter, which sells for 100 at Ebay and from the original Producer for 60(where you have to wait until 1000 People ordered it, so they make new ones.)

I want to know what forums you are going to that suggest purchasing a "reg 7"... I mean that's like saying, "Oh hey, you need a watch? Well hey, look here you NEED to by this here Movado, because anything less isn't a watch."
