Best TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine emu?
I've seen quite a few. I tried one a while ago as well but it was..well..garbage. Anyone have any recommendations? I really wanna play CV Rondo Of Blood. Any help's appreciated.

Since you are probably using Windows, I remember Ootake being pretty good with what I threw at it. There was one that is supposedly really really good but you had to pay money for it.

Much thanks, I tried Ootake and it's excellent. Playing Splatterhouse at the moment.

BY FAR it is Magic Engine. I have not have one single issue with it, and the effects on it make TG-16/PCE/CD/Super CD/Arcade CD/Super Grafx games look amazing. It runs Rondo of Blood no problem. I've only tried it with the original disc, but I'm sure you can find a copy before you buy the real thing if you look hard enough.

I second the magic engine suggestion. It does everything I could ever want.

Magic Engine is old and costs money. Either Ootake or Mednafen are better options these days. Mednafen is more accurate from a developers point of view, but Ootake may be better for certain games. (Ootake has some game specific hacks, while Mednafen strives for a more holistic approach.)

Magic Engine costs is as difficult to find and costs as much money as any ROM you can find online. You haven't really said why it is inferior to other emulators, which I haven't bothered to try because Magic Engine works great for me. Awesome interface, plays all games as accurately as I can tell from having the real things, and it has some cool graphics effects if you turn them on.Hatta wrote:Magic Engine is old and costs money. While the latest version is older, there's certainly nothing wrong with it terms of emulation -- AND it is still undergoing active development, adding even more features to an already excellent emulator. (Check out the development blog on their forums.) It does cost a few dollars, but not only does that get you free updates forever, it also allows you to enter their monthly contest for a free PCE-CDROM.Hatta wrote:Magic Engine is old and costs money.
None of the alternatives come anywhere close to the completeness and feature set of Magic Engine.

Well for one, you can't boot an ISO with Magic Engine. That's a big pain in the ass right there. I checked out their development blog, the game save manager is a nice idea but nothing you can't do by backing up your sram files with a file manager. Dunno what cool graphical effects you mean, bilinear filtering and hq2x scaling? Mednafen has all that if you want it. I prefer pixel accurate emulation personally.

Mount ISO with your favourite virtual disc tool (Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools, etc) and load from Magic Engine. Sure it's an extra step, but it's doable.Hatta wrote:Well for one, you can't boot an ISO with Magic Engine.
I've stuck with Magic Engine all these years simply because it plays everything I want it to without any problems.
